Are you interested in helping launch one of Amazon’s newest strategic initiatives? Amazon Student is developing a new program focused on engaging and acquiring college student customers through direct collaboration with universities.
We are seeking a talented, passionate User Experience Designer to join our team. We're looking for a highly motivated person with proven user interface and visual design skills to create elegant, intuitive user experiences across multiple interfaces that provide a seamless customer experience for some of Amazon’s most technology-savvy users. The ideal candidate will be a big thinker, have a passion for the student customer base, be familiar with agile development methodologies, and thrive on rapid design and development cycles.
•Analyze user interface problems and create on-brand design solutions that meet measurable business goals and requirements
•Create user-centered designs by considering market analysis, customer feedback, and usability findings
•Use business requirements and market research to assist in developing use cases, high-level requirements
•Design the UI architecture, interface, and interaction flow of new web and on-device software applications
•Quickly yet thoroughly create process flows, wireframes, and visual design mockups as needed to effectively conceptualize and communicate detailed interaction behaviors
•Develop and maintain detailed user-interface specifications
•Present design work to the user experience team, product team, and Amazon.com executives for review and feedback
•At least 4 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, information architect, or similar role
•A portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience creating great user-centered design solutions across multiple interfaces and screen sizes
•Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills including the ability to communicate complex, interactive design concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
•Experience working in a collaborative team and working directly with developers for implementation of designs
•Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques
•Familiarity with the technical considerations needed when designing for the web and web based devices
•Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience
•Proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Visio, and Dreamweaver
•Visual design expertise demonstrated through mockups and style guides
• What is happening within your team to create this need?
We have a new program launching later this year and have a lot of upfront UX and design work that require additional resources.
• What should the candidates expect during your interview process (phone screens, loops, etc.)?
1-2 phone screens, loop with 2 people on site.
• What will the work schedule be for this position (ex: 8-5)?
Generally 9-5 but flexible to an extent.
• Please list your top required (must-have) skills for this position:
• Adobe CS Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, etc)
• Experience with prototyping and communicating design solutions through low-fi examples; wireframes, flows, sketches, LoFi comps and simple prototypes
• Knowledge of responsive design strategies and experience designing for mobile
• Portfolio demonstrating a critical eye for typography, layout, and color
• Demonstrate best practices for Web design and user-centered design principles
• What will be the day-to-day activities for this role?
Working with product managers on UX design for new features, gathering input from stakeholders (other designers, marketing, senior leadership), working with development team
• Is there any potential for extension and/or conversion to FTE (please clarify which applies)?
Yes, there’s potential for extension and we may also convert this to a FTE at the end of the contract (pending headcount approval)
