Job Description: Our DIRECT CLIENT has an immediate opening for a Lead Network Engineer to ensure the efficiency and accuracy of business transactions by researching, engineering and implementing network services for use by the client's enterprise network which consists of 30 sites throughout the Maryland, Washington D.C., and West Virginia region. This also includes connectivity to external business partners, vendors and ISP’s.
SCOPE: Position responsible for environment consisting of 6,000 users, 30 sites and over 800 network components routers, switches, hubs and communications circuits).
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Under the direction of the Manager, accountabilities include but are not limited to the following:
Design and integrate systems that enable access to data across and outside of the the client's organization, ensuring integrity, security and availability. Act as consultative resource for voice and data network infrastructure problem resolution, to ensure maximum availability and efficiency of the companies enterprise data network.
Prototypes and tests network based systems and services under consideration for use by I/T and its clients. Develops and maintains network based infrastructure architectures which facilitate access to data across the enterprise and facilitate cross-platform integration.
Manage projects as assigned. Utilize project management tools to track and report on project progress and issues. Act as technical project manager and/or lead architect for projects assigned or approved by the data network engineering area.
Provide technology consulting services to business units, translating their business needs into technology solutions. Function as senior integration specialist for network interoperability design and problem resolution related to cross-platform technical infrastructure issues. Serve as consultative resource to other I/T staff by providing highest level of internal problem escalation in support of the data network. Recommend solutions, alternative techniques and provide training related to voice and data network service infrastructure issues.
Staff guidance, development, assessment and administrative duties.
Research current technology through a combination of formal and self-training. Provide instruction to peers and staff on technology changes.
This position is also subject to being "on call" for emergency situations requiring immediate resolution. Travel between all the client's locations may be required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
BS Degree in Information Management or a related field, with 5-7 years of related experience and/or training in
F5 load balancers
VOIP/SIP QOS
Cisco Nexus switch platform
strong routing and switch skills - EIGRP & BDG, WAN/NPLS
Network Design
Troublshooting skills with network analizers
Project management experience.
Supervisory or project lead experience.
Previous experience must include equipment installation, fault isolation/resolution and project management in a WAN/LAN environment as well as several years experience in managing routers, switches and other network infrastructure components.
Should be very knowledgeable of networking protocols, with a thorough understanding of TCP/IP.
Must have the ability to analyze, design and implement complex network topologies.
Must be aggressive in researching and trialing new technologies that would benefit the enterprise business.
Will need to understand the role of other technical platforms which includes servers, host systems, workstations and network based applications/databases.

Top level technical skills
Working knowledge and experience with configuring main frame communications software including VTAM, TCP/IP, Enterprise Extender, and APPN are a plus.
