Relay Technology is currently assisting one our clients in the area in their search for a Linux Engineer to join their growing team in a permanent capacity.  The ideal candidate will possess expertise in managing Linux systems (RHEL, Ubuntu, Gentoo, CentOS, SuSE, Fedora, Debian, Mint), will have experience in systems scripting / command line scripting, will have experience in resolving systems related issues related to performance and accessibility, and will have experience working with tools and technologies including Apache (Tomcat) Servers, MySQL, PHP / J2EE, Puppet, Chef, Nagios, Cacti, among others.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Configure, deploy, tune, and troubleshoot Linux software solution.
• Provide support for major system changes and participate in planning and execution of version and patch deployment.
• Create vendor support tickets and work with a cross-functional teams to resolve urgent systems issue.
• Participate in Disaster Recovery planning and system failover testing.
• Provide quality and timely on-call support for the production environment.
• Work with the Engineering teams and Incident Manager to understand recurring incidents impacting user population, help identify root cause, and resolve problems.
• Actively monitor, respond to, and resolve system alerts generated by system management tools; Coordinate system tuning to improve service levels.
• Responsible for documenting the systems and application solutions

DESIRED / REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

• B.S. in Computer Science or related field required.
• 2 - 5+ years of experience in Linux system administration and / or engineering, preferably enterprise RHEL, Ubuntu, or Fedora.
• Experience with at least one type of Java application environment, e.g. JBoss, Tomcat, Websphere, etc.
• Knowledge of standard internet protocols including: TCP/IP, HTTP, SSH, and LDAP.
• Experience with one or more scripting languages such as Python, Perl, Shell, Awk, Bsh.
• Experience working on PHP and Ruby on Rails deployments highly desireable.
• Be able to manage and respond to a dynamic work flow and respond to high pressure situations.
• Available to participate in an on-call rotation highly desired.
