Note: This position requires extensive experience in Mobile Applications Development either iOS or Android. It encompasses 70% of the daily responsibilities. The ideal candidate started as a mobile apps developer, moved to Team Lead/Architecture Design then moved onto Management of people and technology. You do not have to be a everyday coder in this role, but should be able to code if needed.
As the Director of Software Development, you will be responsible for driving the execution of software development reporting to the CTO. We’re looking for an experienced leader to be hands-on in directing and motivating a team of about 20 software developers, establish strong working relationships, and communicate regularly with senior management. The person in this role will drive, organize, and prioritize a large, diverse, and dynamic list of ongoing projects of varying scope. This person must be able to champion the company’s commitment to internal processes and documentation.
Daily duties include, but are not limited to:
∙ Remove obstacles in project lifecycle from coding to process
∙ Constantly simplifying architecture and development
∙ Hire, train, coach, manage, and mentor software engineers
∙ Effectively work across a wide array of different projects across the software team
∙ Work with product management to determine priorities and create technical solutions
∙ Work with the engineering team to increase speed, reliability, and agility of software development and deployment of products
∙ Establish and maintain positive working relationships across all departments within the Company: Engineering, Quality Assurance, Advertising, etc.
∙ Define overall technical standards and direction for the engineering team, including software release best practices
∙ Meet with and coordinate with key management on all project specifications and deliverables
∙ Research new product technology and provide overall technical direction and architecture for the team.
∙ Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent technical experience
∙ 5+ years of management experience for a small team of software engineers
∙ Solid knowledge and experience working with a variety of programming languages and software development processes.
∙ Preferred server side development languages include PHP, Python, and NodeJS.
∙ Preferred native mobile development in Android or iOS.
∙ Experience in building a software product from the ground-up to production
∙ Experience in code optimization and performance tuning
∙ Demonstrated experience delivering multiple releases within an agile environment
∙ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate well to both technical and non-technical teams
