Software Engineer Intern - cloudbursting
Position Summary:  


Do you stare at the cloud in awe, and wonder what its real potential is? Do you think the future of modern computing is in data center automation, seamless cloud bursting, and horizontal elastic scaling? Have you played with any of the "modern" computing as a service offerings? You might even have some good ideas to make it better.We are seeking a part-time software engineer to work with a team of veteran software engineers to develop, test, and debug F5's proprietary application delivery controller. Come help us build dynamic datacenters in the cloud!
Duties and Responsibilities:  


* Assist with creation of tools and products that drive F5's new virtualization and clustering technology and our network appliances.* Instrument product code for maintainability, testability, and diagnostics.* Debug problems found by automated systems.* Play with the big toys; configure networks, virtual & physical servers, switches, routers, DB servers, network appliances, and lots of cool test infrastructure.* Document software designs via functional specifications and other design documents.
Desired Qualifications:  


Ongoing work toward a Bachelor degree in computer science or engineering, or a related field or equivalent work experience; keen desire to learn about networking, distributed computing, and systems / kernel programming; intermediate to strong C/C++ and python programming skills; at least some familiarity with *nix operating systems; willingness and ability to write clear plans, specs, and reports; a positive, team-oriented attitude; a passion for technology and learning.
Specific Skills and Abilities:  


* Good software design instincts and coding style.* Excellent scripting skills, preferably in Python are a big plus.* Good debugging skills.* Familiarity of basic IP networking: L2, L3, L4, L7.* Experience with any of the following a big plus: network administration; automation of operating system installs; administrating web servers and SQL databases; virtualization technologies; data center automation and orchestration using puppet or chef.* Aptitude to finding and evaluating good open source tools.* A strong inclination to automate processes, tests, and operations.
