Position Summary

Through F5 Networks Professional Services, the F5 Security Consultant provides contracted engineering for which F5 bills at an hourly rate. Consulting engagements can be long-term events measured in months, or short-term events measured in days. F5 Security Consultants are called upon to assist customers and partners in deploying/integrating customer solutions with F5 products. Primary focus will be toward F5 Networks products and their integration with customer networks and other equipment. While this job may involve some project management and opportunity scoping, it requires customer expectation management and its technical fulfillment. This position is not part of F5's technical support services and is not a corporate escalation point for customer issues. F5 Consultants often interface with F5 Sales Account Executives, but do not report to any given Account Executive. Incidental mentorship may result from working with other F5 employees, but it is not a performance metric.

:* Performs consulting project activities, ranging from client identification to final invoicing to engagements requiring varied interpersonal and technical skills.* Assumes technical responsibilities that may include, but are not limited to: security assessment, forensic analysis, vulnerability risk remediation, problem identification, systems architecture definition, hardware/software specification, design, implementation, testing, client training, and solution deployment.* Performs project management activities that may include, but are not limited to: interaction with company and client managers, monitoring of cost/scheduling, project cost estimating, creation of high and low level project plans, proposal generation, and invoicing..* Identifies additional product/services opportunities in customer organization.* Manages customer interaction and engagement, including project scoping, Statement of Work development, deliverable documentation, and follow-up.* Maintains working proficiency in F5 products and technologies through self-directed and formal training.

* BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience.* Minimum of four years experience supporting technical environments.* Minimum of four years experience in a security-related role.* Demonstrated strong interpersonal and presentation skills.* Ability to articulate and transfer complex ideas to a wide audience through both verbal and written communication.* Self-motivated and flexible.* Demonstrated strong written communication, presentation creation, project scoping, and technical documentation skills.* Experience with risk identification, analysis/assessment, and mitigation.* Experience with vulnerability scanners and tools, such as: Whitehat, Cenzic, Qualys, Nessus, Metasploit, Paros, et al.* Knowledge of security concepts and the relation to network architecture and design.* Knowledge of vulnerability concepts: attack types, attack surface, attack vectors; and ability to understand known and 0-day exploit specifics.* Knowledge of common networking concepts with a thorough understanding of Ethernet, IP, TCP, and UDP.* Working knowledge of Linux, Unix, and Windows variants.* Working knowledge of, and proficiency in, industry standard security technologies and products: Firewalls, WAFs, IDS/IPS, et al.* Working knowledge of firewall implementation and policies for at least some of the most common commercial products: Checkpoint, Juniper, Cisco.* in-depth knowledge of the HTTP protocol and related technologies, such as XML, JSON, and JavaScript.* Working knowledge of AAA related technologies: ActiveDirectory (AD), LDAP, NTLM, Kerberos, SAML, RADIUS, DIAMETER, TACACS.* Working knowledge of cryptographic concepts and implementations (OpenSSL, DNSSEC, SSL, PKI, IKE).* Working knowledge of SIEM implementations.* F5 ATM and Security certifications will be required within six months of hire.* Security certifications (OSCP, OSWE, GIAC, CISSP, Security+, etc) are a plus.* Security clearance is a plus.* It is helpful for candidates to have experience with the following:* Working knowledge of, and proficiency in, F5 ATM and security technologies.* Working knowledge of competitive ATM products: Citrix, A10, Cisco.* Database technologies: SQL, MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle.* VPN and tunneling technologies: IPSec, SSL, PPTP, GRE, MPLS.* Routing technologies: OSPF, BGP.* Common Daemons: BIND, SSH, OpenLDAP, ZebOS.* Microsoft products: Exchange, SharePoint, Lync.* 802.1 standards.* Common web daemons: IIS, Apache, WebSphere, WebLogic, or similar web and application platforms.* F5 iRule development.* Tcpdump, snoop, ethereal and other packet sniffing software or products.* Penetration testing and protocol fuzzing.* Virtualization technologies such as VMware.* Enterprise Antivirus and Malware management solutions.* Scripting and development experience in Unix Shell, Perl, Python, C, C++, C#.* Scripting and development experience in web technologies: Java, JSP, PHP, .NET.* Audits such as PCI Compliance.* Code review process.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:  

Duties are performed in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table, and require the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material. Expect travel 70% for on-site work with customers and partners.
