Job Description

The Security Engineer is responsible for assessing, documenting and improving the security of United Online systems and applications.
This is a technical, hands-on position that will perform vulnerability assessments on network applications and systems, make
recommendations for improving security, and implement those recommendations. This person will be a member of our incident response
team and will assist the company in maintaining regulatory compliance with PCI, Sarbanes Oxley, and other applicable standards.

1. B.S. in computer science, Information Systems or related field.
2. At least 5 years of experience in system administration, preferably Linux or Unix.
3. Strong understanding of common network protocols, including TCP/IP, HTTP and SSL, along with tools and debuggers for capturing and
analyzing traffic.
4. Experience with Perl. Other common scripting and programming languages are a plus (Java, PHP, Python, Javascript, etc.)
5. Experience with and knowledge of PCI and Sarbanes Oxley sections pertaining to information security desired.
6. Demonstrable understanding of common types of web application vulnerabilities including XSS, SQL injection, script injection, etc.
7. Familiarity with common tools used in connection with information security, including NMap, application and network vulnerability
scanners (WebInspect, Nessus, etc), system hardening tools, Wireshark, etc.
8. Understanding of Unix security issues. Windows security is also a strong plus.
9. CISSP, GCIH, or other well-known information security certifications desired.
10. Ability to write policies and procedures; prioritize work and meet deadlines; communicate technical information orally and in writing.

1. Provide technical direction on the secure administration of Solaris and Linux systems.
2. Review software project plans to identify potential security issues and recommend solutions for mitigating them.
3. Conduct risk assessments, audits, and vulnerability scans for systems and applications that use common web and database tools such
as Perl, Java, Apache, MySQL, Oracle, etc.
4. Analyze logs, packet captures, and scanner output to identify and characterize security threats.
5. Perform vulnerability management, including assessing the severity of newly discovered security vulnerabilities.
