Job Description

Move is currently looking for a UX leader passionate about building great experiences to join our team in the role ofUser Experience (UX) Manager reporting to the Director of User Experience.

The UX Manager advances the overall quality of strategic thinking and design as applied to technology. They are responsible for establishing creative direction for the entire line of online services, products, and programs while working with a design team whose mission is to innovate and lead. They prioritize UED work to align with corporate goals and business objectives,plan innovative changes to both the visual design and information architecture, and ensure a positive, collaborative, high-performance work environment.

The UX Manager monitors external research, standards, inventions, and trends for potential opportunities, and builds a world-class user experience design team to meet the needs of these efforts. They develop creative briefs and design concepts to meet the business objectives of the organization and work with the development team to coordinate design schedules anddeliverables, negotiate designs and deliverables with external suppliers, and partner with other design organizations to provide consistency between products. They are responsible for providing strategy direction, mentoring technical proficiency of User Centered Design, and evangelizing a positive user experience as a corporate vision.

Responsibilities:

  • Set strategic objectives, and communicate design direction to peers, executives and the design community

  • Understand complex, distributed systems, and speak on a technical level with programmers

  • Anticipate and makes significant changes to improve products and/or department processes

  • Participate with executives to establish strategic company plans and objectives

  • Prioritize User Experience work to align with corporate goals and business objectives

  • Plan innovative changes to UI design, information architecture, strategy, development processes and organizational capabilities/structure

  • Ensure a positive, collaborative, high-performance work environment

  • Manage run-the-business aspects of the UED team

  • Create a user experience vision and strategy

  • Develop and grow a world-class user experience research and design team

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Proven leadership in the User Experience Design profession

  • Undergrad required, Masters, or PhD degree in Anthropology, Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, or related areas preferred

  • At least 6 years work experience in a UX or User Research related role - at least 2 years as a UX Manager

  • Exemplary ability to build positive, collaborative relationships across teams/groups/functions and a strong track-record of developing and hiring great people

  • Knowledge of HCI principles and web design best practices

  • Excellent command of user experience methods, design principles, problem-framing skills, verbal and written communication skills

  • Familiar with HTML, CSS, JavaScript concepts and modern browser capabilities - other coding skills not required but considered a plus

  • Ability to juggle many different tasks


Additional Preferred Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for this position will have a solid understanding of user-center design principles, strong HTML abilities, excellent visual design skills, great technical know-how, and proven expertise in doing design with great attention to detail. They must have the ability to successfully collaborate with executives, designers, product managers and engineers to develop innovative, user-friendly, best-of-breed products.

  • Must have a strong sense of graphic design, layout, color, and style, and also have a deep appreciation for simple, sleek, usable interfaces. Must be an evangelist for great, user-centered design
