Our Cleveland, OH client is seeking a Network Design Engineer. The Network Design Engineer has responsibility for the evaluation, design and implementation of scalable carrier grade data networking infrastructure elements.  The Network Design Engineer is also responsible for customer advanced applications engineering and deployment functions.  This position requires demonstrated abilities to design and implement advanced WAN and LAN enterprise environments utilizing MPLS and / or public internet configurations.

This position requires an in depth understanding of carrier provided Voice over IP and IP infrastructure. The ability to build requirements and qualify offeringsfrom underlying carriers, equipment vendors and 3rd party technical resources is required. The Network Design Engineer needs to be hands-on with the ability to troubleshoot network performance issues within underlying carrier’s networks and customer locations including deciphering interoperability issues with firewalls, routers, feature servers, customer switches, customer interfaces and VOIP endpoints.

The Network Design Engineer may be required to assist in the sales engineering process, progressing sales and providing technology presentations as well as ensuring successful delivery of customer networks and services.

Responsibilities:

Product Engineering:

  • Responsible for Network Design and Specifications for new opportunities (carrier infrastructure and customer networks)
  • Assist in Product Design and vendor requirements generation
  • Assist in Business Process Management

Network and Service Reliability:

  • Implementation of core network elements
  • Design and implementation of complex customer MPLS networks.
  • Establish network diagnostics, surveillance and management tools.
  • Assist in resolution of Tier III IP and VOIP issues.
  • Manage VOIP issues using a variety of analyzers, i.e. Acterna, Aritza, Empirix, Finisar, Radcom, Wildpackets.
  • Provide on site support for chronic VOIP troubles and data equipment installations

Customer Network Design and Deployment:

  • Assist in Sales Engineering
  • Management of all customer service provisioning activity including customer network design, service engineering, network expansion, etc.
  • Stage, configure, install, document, and troubleshoot next generation equipment
  • Onsite deployment as required
  • Provide technical information, support and training for customers (internal and external)
  • Other duties assigned and determined by business needs

Requirements:

  • Able to implement and manage core network elements, Gateways, IADs, routers, firewalls, switches, feature servers, SBC’s.
  • Able to manage network cost and network planning functions.
  • Able to assist with the creation of comprehensive Sales Proposals/Technology Solutions
  • Able to teach and develop new competencies within existing team
  • Able to build strong production routine to meet key performance indicators related to network reliability, delivery of customer’s service, et al.
  • Create an environment of continuous improvement and strong project / customer management.
  • Manage customer expectations through standard processes as well as one-on-one communication
  • Mastery of the following technology areas:
    • IP management, basic assignment, SWIP to ARIN.
    • Internet routers/switches (DSL, CBL, DS1, bonded, DS3, ethernet)
    • Firewalls, VPN Connectivity, IPSec
    • VOIP: SIP, RTP, TLS, SRTP protocols, Packet interpretation
    • Routers, private networking (MPLS, Frame, Point to point, QoS / CoS )
    • VOIP Gateway configuration
    • Hosted Feature servers, Session Border Controllers
    • Basic knowledge of all the following protocols H.323, H.323v2, SIP, SIP-T, Megaco, MGCP, H.248, SCCP, G711, G.729, G.726, SS7, PRI.

  • Demonstrative experience in Cisco maintenance, provisioning, and troubleshooting. Specific experience in similar manufacturer’s equipment (e.g. Adtran) would be acceptable
