Bowhead is looking for an experienced Contractor Technical Lead to provide technology-enabled solutions and oversight for sustainment of the CREW Duke system firmware/software baseline and threat loads.  The Technical Lead shall responsible for overall technical implementation of applications and threat load in support of CREW Duke Sustainment. This position primarily requires strong technical expertise to maintain, and improve an integrated software, embedded firmware, and radio frequency system baseline.  Programmatic skills will also be required, though should make up a small portion of regular duties.  The Technical Lead will be part of an integrated team maintaining a software and firmware baseline to maintain effectiveness in defeating worldwide RCIED threats.  The Technical Lead will use strong analytical and problem solving skills to work independently in support of on-going projects managed from the Avionics, Countermeasures and Sensors Division and the SEC ARAT -Program Office.

The Duke software baseline includes an existing codebase and libraries for existing Windows software tools in C++, C#, and Java to interface with an embedded system and perform post-mission analysis.  To maintain force protection, the baseline requires development of threat loads, to include analysis of threat devices, development of techniques to counter these threats, and technique implementation in software or embedded firmware as required.

Tasks performed may include, but are not limited to:

  • Acting as senior technical subject matter expert in support of a team of ~20 staff under US government leadership, including radio frequency engineers, software engineers, firmware developers, RCIED threat analysts and exploitation staff, testers, and programmatic support.
  • Being a mentor for the entire team and guiding the team effectively.
  • Integrating all technical efforts to maintain multiple software and radio frequency products to ensure coherent requirements, design, development, and testing of all baseline products
  • Defining new software requirements for existing and new software tools in response to changes to system performance requirements, to include supporting new methods of signal processing, methods of signal generation, system interfaces, analysis tools, and other improved system functionality.
  • Leading efforts to ensure operational readiness and ongoing supportability for new applications and components to ensure operational excellence and that operational needs are met.
  • Providing technical solutions in response to software trouble reports identified by user reported anomalies
  • Developing unit, integration, and system level tests and test plans in support of Software Functional Qualification Test (SFQT), laboratory performance test, and field test activities for updated system baseline products.
  • Performing independent reviews of technical products and deliverables produced by others (e.g. specifications, source code, compiled software, test benches, test procedures, technical requirements, verification plans, technical reports, etc.).
  • Ensuring software design meets applicable coding and configuration management processes and standards, to include traceability to specifications.
Required Skills
  • Strong, demonstrated experience as a technical subject matter expert in support of or leading electronic and radio frequency systems required.
  • Ability and desire to provide technical direction to a system design team.
  • Must be able to travel to CONUS locations to participate in technical reviews, training, and testing; travel is estimated at less than 25%.
  • Strong Visio, PowerPoint, Excel and Word skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to follow security rules.
  • Prior experience in development of RF system detection and attack algorithms.

Desired Skills

  • Prior experience with global telecommunications protocols and radio frequency communication standards strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, development, and test of electronic warfare and electronic attack systems is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a CMMI Level 3 or higher environment preferred.
  • Prior experience in systems integration preferred.
  • Experience in MATLAB, LabView, and Xilinx FPGA firmware development preferred.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must be able to obtain a clearance at the TOP SECRET/SCI level.
