Bowhead is looking for an Engineering Technician. The Technician will be integrated into a team of technicians and engineers and may be cross-trained on multiple fabrication methods, but will be the lead technical support in filament winding operations. Duties will include:

  • Fabrication of traditional and novel laminate composite architectures using filament winding and mechanical characterization using ASTM methods
  • Supporting other engineers in completion of larger tasks, and therefore, must be willing adapt to changing responsibilities.
  • Developing an enhanced capability on ARL's custom filament winding tool to increase resin types applied.
Required Skills
  • Experience in filament winding and manufacture experience in an ISO fabrication facility. Options may include developing custom solutions for applying thermoplastics, thermosets, and tape-preg fiber lay-up in various orientations.
  • Familiarity with ASTM and mil-spec characterization of materials, be familiar with processing, such as resin transfer molding (RTM), vacuum assisted RTM (VARTM), and autoclave methods of consolidation.

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of resin chemistry, interfacial properties of composites, and laminate theory.
  • Specific knowledge of composite materials, composite fabrication methods, mechanical testing and evaluation of composites.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must be able to obtain a clearance at the SECRET level.

Required Experience

2-3 years of experience in filament winding and research in composites manufacturing or a Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience.
