Bowhead is looking for a Senior Scientist/Engineer III to perform identification of appropriate synthetic targets, route selection & optimization, characterization, and potentially materials processing.  The Scientist will also provide organic synthesis support to a wide variety of materials research programs and applications. Typical synthetic targets will include small molecule organics, monomer preparation, conjugated molecules, transition metal complexes, nanoparticles, and polymers.

Required Skills

Broad range of skills to enable full spectrum synthetic and characterization activities, including: familiarity with air-free synthetic techniques, flash chromatography, recrystallization, distillation, GPC (gel permeation chromatography), DSC (differential scanning calorimetry), TGA (thermal gravimetric analysis), UV-Vis spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and NMR spectrometry.

Desired Skills
Experience with surface analysis (XPS, contact angle), polymer rheology, and advanced microscopy techniques (confocal, SEM, TEM).
Good publication history.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a clearance at the SECRET level.

Required Experience

B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline and 5-8 years of relevant experience.
