Help Desk Technical Expert (Unix Administrator) Technician:
This position is for a Technical Expert supporting the legacy Unix Systems. This role includes Request Fulfillment and Incident Management of systems, software and/or hardware Requests and Incidents. The role provides support forour client's end-users both locally (National Office) and in field/regional offices.
The candidate must be available to work 8 hour shifts between [7-7:00pm], Monday-Friday with up to 4 weeks orientation working 8:00am-4:30pm. The candidate will have the responsibility to resolve all incidents possible or escalate when required to the appropriate support group, or management, to resolve all categories and severities of Incidents reported (trouble tickets).
This role requires the following skill components:
1) Familiar with ITIL processes and IT lifecycle
2) Telephone support for in-house legacy client/server application software
3) Telephone support for Microsoft Operating Systems/Office desktop application software products and applications and any future products
4) Telephone support for remote users, including at minimum:
a) General access and connectivity issues
b) Desktop application issues
c) Support for in-house developed applications and systems (GOTS, COTS)
d) Hardware support for devices approved and maintained by DIT
5) National Office end-user support - hands-on desktop software and hardware installation (when appropriate) and support
6) Email support for all requests/incidents reported via email
7) Provide second/third level support for NCR model 3000 class3445 Unix servers running AT&T System V Unix, Informix SE and Word Perfect for Unix 5.1
8) Provide support for field site administrators for issues such as backups, managing local user accounts, database administration, software installation and server resources management, etc.
9) Coordinate with network, developer and security groups as well as other DIT contacts as necessary for timely resolution of events and incidents reported
10) Provide in-house client server and web application software support; field consultant application support
11) Provide printer administration, parallel, serial and network pringers, maintain spare parts inventory and purchase parts as necessary.
12) Communications, network, modem and VPN maintenance and support
13) Provide support for DIT’s tier 3 network, security and development groups in the identification and escalation of IT Problems
Qualifications:
Experience and qualifications should be as follows -
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- 3-5 years’ experience in an IT support environment
- Able to work an 8 hour shift between 7:00am-7:00pm Monday through Friday
- Able to work in a fast paced, intense environment
- Able to act respectfully toward customers at all times
Preferred:
- ITIL Foundation or higher certification
- HDI Service Center Analyst
- Unix administration
- hardware troubleshooting and repair
Desirable:
- MCTS for Desktop Support on Windows 7
- MCTS for Active Directory
- Familiar with SCOM and SCCM principles
Clearance:
- Must undergo and successfully attain the following security investigation: Background Investigation (BI)
- Must successfully clear a Credit Check
