Instructional Designer
Position Description:
This is an experienced-level position as an Instructional Designer within the Global Customer Services organization. The Instructional Designer will be responsible for helping to design new, custom and improved curriculum for service groups within Global Customer Services. This initiative will take multiple years to complete, and is inclusive of several global regions in scope. The Instructional Designer will work closely with a cross-functional service design team in determining the needs of the organization, closely with local members of the Global Learning Organization to assess current state, and be chiefly responsible for merging those results into a new hire training course that works best for new service groups regionally. This position reports directly to the Global Manager of Instructional Design and requires a standard amount of supervision. This position could be located in the Draper, UT facility or the Dublin, Ireland facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Utilize all aspects of the ADDIE model (and other applicable ISD models) to produce relevant and targeted training.
- Develop training objectives, content, experiences, and evaluations that are tied to detailed training analysis and performance objectives.
- Demonstrate creativity, flexibility, efficiency and innovation in course design as applied to experiential learning, e-learning, activities, games, scenarios, role-plays, and the like.
- Work as a professional partner and consultant when interfacing with internal customers to solve business problems in ways that meet the needs of all key stakeholders, including the learner.
- Revise and maintain existing materials.
- Work with/consult with Subject Matter Experts to ensure quality and accuracy of designs.
- Maintain open and streamlined communication with all staff involved in new initiatives and projects as related to training. Communicate with client, project management, L&OD, and other staff on all aspects of project from analysis to evaluation.
- Create training in compliance with key processes, style guides, and templates.
- Coordinate project tasks with management and team members as needed.
- Potentially design and storyboard e-learning content, for stand-alone or blended solutions.
- Potentially design graphical layouts for e-learning, create some custom graphics, take screen captures/recordings, and other light to moderate graphic design tasks related to e-learning development.
- Maintaining a project schedule of training-related tasks associated with the larger project, and be able to provide detailed views and progress against those plans.
Job Requirements/Basic Qualifications:
- Must be able to provide work samples.
- Ability to read and interpret technical and other complex tools and documents into material people will understand.
- Ability to write clear and concise materials.
- Ability to write routine correspondence such as emails and memos in a clear, professional manner.
- Ability to present information in one-on-one and group situations to internal and/or external clients.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Constructive thinking and alternative short- to long-term solutions must be considered.
- Proficient (intermediate to advanced) with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience in a consultancy role, whether internal or external (familiar with in-depth analysis, gathering requirements, managing stakeholder expectations, generating multiple solutions to single problems, identifying performance issues, etc.)
- Schedule must be flexible in order to accommodate meetings in global time zones (primarily Ireland and Germany, occasionally Asia-Pacific)
- Potential for infrequent global travel lasting approximately 1-4 weeks in duration, either to other eBay global sites or to our outsource partner sites which spread across several countries in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Schedule must be able to accommodate, as necessary, these infrequent trips.
Desired Qualifications:
- A background in new hire curriculum is strongly desired (familiarity with detailed timing of course units, daily schedules, reviews, a variety of group activities and methods, classroom activities, periodic assessment, and other things common to the new hire experience).
- Additional experience with rapid eLearning Tools (Camtasia, Captivate) a plus.
- Additional experience with Flash a plus.
- Instructional Design certificates, ASTD certifications, etc. desired.
- Verbal and written proficiency in German, Spanish, French, or Italian is considered a plus.
- Experience translating materials from one language to another is considered a plus.
- Experience working in a global environment (cross-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-time zone, etc.) a plus.
