Job Description: 

The Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse (BI/DW) Architect provides the overall vision and technical leadership to devise and implement Legacy’s business analytics and data warehouse strategy.

 

The BI/DW Architect works with end users to elicit and understand their business data and information needs and designs BI/DW solutions to meet those needs. The BI/DW Architect leverages healthcare knowledge, industry best practice, and detailed understanding of Legacy’s diverse data sources to facilitate this design, implementation and management process.

 

The BI/DW Architect applies database theory and business process analysis to develop logical data models, convert these logical models into databases, and use business intelligence tools to extract information and analytics in usable formats. The position develops and implements enterprise-level strategies and principles for the integration of enterprise information resources that span clinical, operational, financial, HR, supply chain, and other operational data stores. The BI/DW Architect also suggests data governance structure to ensure effective stewardship and management practices for data integrity and utility. 

 
Job Qualifications: 

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. 

Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in delivery of IT solutions, to include systems analyst experience (analyzing source systems is highly desired). Minimum of 5 years of experience as a designer and architect of BI/DW solutions. Delivery of at least three data warehouse/marts from specification through end-user acceptance testing. Two to three years of data modeling. Exposure to multiple (two or more) business intelligence tools. Exposure to multiple (two or more) data integration tools. Healthcare experience is significantly preferred.

 

 

Skills: Enterprise data warehouse architectures and best practices, knowledge of database administration skills and practices. Mid-level Structured Query Language skills. Expertise in business process engineering, identifying alternative processes, and identifying compound steps/activities in existing processes. 

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Serves as the senior most technical expert for BI/DW topics, providing clear vision to all stakeholders including end users and IS team members.

  2. Designs overall data and technical architecture, selects vendor products, and implements those products to further the capabilities of the BI architecture.

  3. Analyzes business needs and determines appropriate data, system design, and processes to deliver relevant BI solutions.

  4. Independently manages projects that are moderate to large in complexity.

  5. Designs/implements logical and physical data structures.

  6. Designs/implements complex ETL processes that extract data from multiple sources.

  7. Designs/implements views and data structures required for complex reporting requirements.

  8. Designs/implements processes and tools to support day-to-day operation of the platform.

  9. Ensures that all architectural and operational designs take stability, maintainability, and reliability into account.

  10. Supports ongoing operational management of the system and troubleshoots complex operational problems.

  11. Helps architect and execute appropriate testing strategies.

  12. Keeps up to date on BI/DW trends in order to update the platform and meet evolving needs of the organization.

  13. Coordinates work of a diverse group of IT resources to accomplish BI objectives. This includes collaboration with Application Analysts, DBAs, System Administrators, Report Writers, ETL Analysts, and more. Acts as overall architect and leader across these groups, often providing guidance to contributors who are on other teams.

  14. Educates and mentors junior members of the BI/DW team.

  15. Prescribes and enforces technology standards for the BI platform.

  16. Ensures that all aspects of the BI platform are appropriately documented.

  17. Leverages detailed knowledge of performance data warehouse tuning techniques to manage system performance and capacity.

  18. Contributes to hardware design, ensuring that complex BI/DW queries complete quickly and loads are efficient.

  19. Contributes to budgeting and ROI analysis.

  20. Use metrics to manage operations and communicate system achievements.

  21. Leads the definition of and subsequently follows enterprise and department-specific standards and methodologies.
