Primary activities include system software installation and support of
Oracle 10g & 11g RDBMS, OEM Grid Control 10.2.0.5 or above, Oracle
Clusterware/Grid Infrastructure on a multi-node cluster to include
Active/Passive failovers; software tuning; problem identification and
consulting; database backups and recovery using RMAN; and the
application of software maintenance provided regularly by vendors. The
ideal candidate will coordinate changes to Oracle database environments;
troubleshoot application code with developers, test, and implement
changes with a deep understanding of these database management systems.
The candidate should be able to articulate the future architecture for
Oracle database installations in the environment, and work towards
moving the organization in this direction. The candidate should also
have experience with planning and implementing Oracle upgrades and
patching to include new major releases, patch set installations, and
application of quarterly security patches. The candidate should have
hands on use of the OEM functionality including diagnostics and tuning
pack features, setting up and responding to alerts, & job scheduling.
The candidate will all be responsible for specifying user access levels,
as well as developing guidelines for appropriate user access. The
candidate would be available to answer user questions, and confer with
coworkers to determine the impact of changes in our environment in terms
of both application availability/impact and opportunity costs. The
candidate will establish database runtime parameters and calculate
optimum settings by following industry standards, conduct performance
tuning, and regularly review SUSE Linux server capacities for memory,
cpu and other usage. The candidate may train other system database
administrators and customers as needed. The Database Administrator
should rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals,
independently perform a variety of complicated tasks, and collaborate
with team members to develop standards. This position also provides
customer service and consulting support on a broad array of service and
participates in projects from genesis through completion. The incumbent
will frequently work on projects that require a strong understanding of
customer service, good communication skills and the ability to work with
a team approach. The ability to function with an enterprise perspective
and to work with technical staff, management and other entities staff on
technical design and business issues is critical.
