General Description: - This is an E-Commerce operations support position located in a Web hosting co-location production operations environment. The database administrator will provide technical support in a production operations environment, and have thorough knowledge of Oracle database application development and operation suppor. This person will perform complex operational tasks that include support of various types of applications used in a web infrastructure, analysis of the root cause of any problem issues, resolution of any application problems, and escalation of any irresolvable issues to the vendor as necessary. This work is in a 7X24X365 data center. On-call and weekend work is expected.
- Typical Duties:
- Provide application development and operational database support
- Comfortable communicating with customer facing activities
- Responsible for database backups, recoveries, patches, upgrades, design, development, testing, and performance tuning
- Participation in client meetings will be required
- Contractor must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends and nights
- Responsible for sharing 24 x 7 on call rotation duties with other team members
- Required Skills and/or Product Knowledge:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience working with ORACLE database systems on UNIX
- Oracle 10g/11g DBA experience in application development and operational support
- Candidate must have experience in Oracle 10g/11g database architecture, automation, installs, , backup & recovery, monitoring, and database and query tuning
- RMAN experience in Oracle 10g or higher
- Strong performance and tuning skill set
- Shell scripting skill is required.
- Database partitioning, patching, and cloning experience
- Oracle support in Java environment
- Experience with SQL Server and DB2 Connect Gateway
- Proficiency in PL/SQL
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team, and with clients
- The following skills and experience are preferred:
- Oracle High Availability using Veritas preferred
- Experience with Sun Solaris is strongly preferred
- Experience in highly available web based OLTP systems strongly preferred
- Oracle certified professional ( OCP ) is plus
- Prefer experience in an ITIL environment
- Travel requirements: Travel requirements to client locations are estimated at 5%.
General requirements include extensive use of Microsoft Word; along with potential use of Excel, Access, and/or PowerPoint if applicable. Superior verbal and written communication; attention to detail; and strong organizational skills.
Experience in an ITIL environment is preferred.
