Meanwhile, the premium that employers are willing to pay for specific certified skills is near its lowest overall average cash-value point in five years, noted David Foote, Foote Partners\u2019 chief analyst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany older certifications are still paying premiums, but we are learning that the value of certifications\u2014especially those supporting vendor-specific technologies\u2014have \u2018expiration dates,\u2019\u201d Foote explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conversely, the cash premiums (or guaranteed bonus above base salary) that employers are willing to pay for the 554 non-certified skills tracked by the firm is now near a 19-year high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s a look at the non-certified tech skills that have gained the most in market value through the first part of 2019, and the certified skills that are still commanding above average pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-non-certified-winners\"><strong>Non-Certified Winners<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These non-certified skills not only logged steep gains in market value over the six-month period ending April 1\u2014they are garnering premium pay of 16 percent or more of base salary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"big-data-engineer-job-description-template\">Big Data<\/a> Analytics<\/strong><br>Although the marketplace for the entire category of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dice.com\/career-advice\/big-data-key-better-cybersecurity\">Big Data<\/a> skills has been surprisingly volatile, with 38 skills changing value in the first quarter, Big Data analytics skills and certifications have increased in value every quarter for the past two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Apache Pig<\/strong><br><em>Market Value Increase: 21.4 percent<\/em><br><em>Average Pay Premium: 17 percent of base salary<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dice.com\/career-advice\/techs-winning-and-losing-jobs-in-2019\">MapReduce<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scala <\/strong><br><em>Market Value Increase: 13.3 percent<\/em><br><em>Average Pay Premium: 17 percent of base salary<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Metadata Design and Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Security Architecture and Model<\/strong><br><em>Market Value Increase: 6.3 percent<\/em><br><em>Average Pay Premium: 17 percent of base salary<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dice.com\/career-advice\/amazons-redshift-reaches-general-availability\">Amazon RedShift<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Master Data Management<\/strong><br><em>Market Value Increase: 14.3 percent<\/em><br><em>Average Pay Premium: 16 percent of base salary<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Smart Contract <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Blockchain<\/strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dice.com\/career-advice\/blockchain-attracting-companies-developers\">Blockchain<\/a> has gained traction over the past few years, with major firms such as IBM, Microsoft, HP and SAP making significant investments (and rolling out blockchain-as-as-service solutions).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dice.com\/career-advice\/cloudera-impala-boosts-query-speed-over-hivemapreduce\">Cloudera Impala<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Apache Hive<\/strong><br><em>Market Value Increase: 6.7 percent<\/em><br><em>Average Pay Premium: 16 percent of base salary<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Risk Analytics\/Assessment<\/strong><br><em>Market Value Increase: 6.7 percent<\/em><br><em>Average Pay Premium: 16 percent of base salary<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tech-certification-winners\"><strong>Tech Certification Winners<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Another reason why certifications lost 3.3 percent of their value in the last twelve months: Employers are finding that simply passing a test doesn\u2019t always translate to on-the-job success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps that&#8217;s why more employers are asking for examples of candidates&#8217; work, along with code samples and portfolios.
