What to Expect

The New Programs Engineering team works at the front end of the design and development cycle by studying, simulating, building, and validating Tesla's future vehicle concepts. New Programs Engineers interact with cross-functional partners from the Design, Vehicle Engineering, and Powertrain Engineering teams and others to develop 3D designs, mules, prototypes, and demonstrators used for informing downstream engineering efforts. This is a multidisciplinary design engineering position with a focus on the design, modification, and bring-up of vehicle harnesses.

The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal and communication skills. They must be able to balance tight deadlines with demanding engineering requirements. Additionally, they must establish and maintain a professional working relationship with external and internal teams.

What You?ll Do

  • Rapidly gather requirements, design and modify detailed harness schematics to integrate a variety of electromechanical components and control units
  • Harness component selection and validation for prototype applications
  • Document build/rework instructions for complex vehicle wire harnesses
  • Troubleshoot and quality check harnesses in the fabrication, assembly and bring up stages of mule builds
  • Support the bring up and debug process of prototype vehicles
  • Innovate, develop, and improve processes continuously


What You?ll Bring

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Hands-on experience designing and building electro-mechanical systems, harnesses, or vehicles
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in handling multiple priorities, organizing workloads, and meeting tight delivery timelines
  • Solid electrical engineering fundamentals: DC/AC circuit analysis, signals & systems, analog + digital signal processing, communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet), LV/HV systems etc.
  • Understand vehicle-level systems engineering including communications, functionality trade-offs, grounding and EMC strategies
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD and PLM software (CATIA preferred)
  • Familiarity with, and working knowledge of, mechanical systems: thermal, heat dissipation, vibration, strength, durability, corrosion-prevention, materials, etc.
  • Additional complementary skills - programming, mechanical design, fabrication, etc.
  • Understands and deals well with rapid development cycles, ambiguity and unexpected changes in direction

    • Expected Compensation

      $84,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
