    THE OPPORTUNITY

    Scholastic's Digital Education Engineering teams build and maintain learning applications and other supporting technologies that help kids progress through their journey to becoming proficient, independent readers. From highly game-oriented phonics to on-line independent digital reading, millions of students use Scholastic's digital literacy products. Our technologies also support integrations with school and district systems, gather and aggregate data on student performance to enhance teacher and administrative decision-making, and configure an increasingly rich suite of capabilities.

    Scholastic's Digital Manager is a key component of the technology landscape that supports the capabilities listed above. Digital Manager handles provisioning, entitlements, rostering and integration with our customers Student Information Systems and Learning Management Systems, as well as internal tools. We are looking to fill a technical architect on the Digital Manager team who will guide the team to deliver new capabilities, simplify the APIs and interfaces that other applications rely on, help chart our enterprise data integration approach, drive to new levels scalability, reliability, and quality and drive down technical debt.

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Take a lead role in analyzing functional and non-functional needs for Digital Manager as we substantially grow our digital solutions and usage.
    • Design and develop a consistent and coherent API to provide rostering, IAM, and other services to client applications and services, while ensuring support for industry integration standards and products such as IMS OneRoster and LTI, and common integration services such as Clever and ClassLink.
    • Conducting proof-of-concept efforts to evaluate designs, vendor and partner technology, and product prototypes
    • Contributing to partner and vendor selection and management
    • Facilitating technical dispute resolution that cuts across multiple teams
    • Documenting, communicating and soliciting feedback on architectural decisions and recommendations
    • Driving adoption of enterprise practices and patterns

    Qualifications

    HOW YOU CAN FIT (Qualifications)
    • BA or BS in a technical discipline, advanced degree strongly preferred
    • Career track progression in software development, as an individual contributor, team technical lead, application architect, potentially into enterprise architecture
    • Significant fraction of career experience specifically on SaaS products service millions of users
    • Prior experience designing and deploying cloud-based/cloud-native solutions in AWS. Strong knowledge of containerized and serverless models and related services and the orchestration of these into applications and suites of applications
    • Expert command of enterprise integration patterns and their implementation
    • Strong API design experience, especially REST
    • Servant-leader attitude, consensus builder but able to drive to decisions and deadlines
    • Experience in Agile environments and applying architectural methods that support Agile product development
    • Candidates with the following experience will be strongly preferred:
      • Prior experience working in Ed Tech (K12, HE, Professional)
      • Prior experience with multiple Ed Tech and related standards such as those from IMS, ADL, W3C
