Master Data Analyst
Position Overview
The Master Data Analyst serves as a senior technical expert responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of data across multiple enterprise systems. This role requires deep expertise in data analysis, relational databases, reporting, and data governance. The analyst will collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide consulting support to multiple agencies, and develop data-driven solutions that address complex organizational needs. The position demands strong analytical thinking, advanced SQL capabilities, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Operating with minimal oversight, the Master Data Analyst leads data-centric projects, supports business intelligence environments, and plays a critical role in improving data quality and operational efficiency across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
Stakeholder Engagement & Requirements Analysis
- Independently interface with high-level stakeholders through meetings, emails, and calls to gather requirements, define project goals, and ensure data quality throughout all project phases.
- Develop and maintain consulting relationships with multiple agencies, each with unique data environments and business rules.
Data Analysis, Reporting & BI Development
- Analyze, compile, validate, and query enterprise data as part of data warehousing operations.
- Develop complex SQL queries used for reporting, dashboards, and data analytics applications.
- Design and implement reports using SQL and various business intelligence tools.
- Create and maintain metadata, data dictionaries, and database documentation.
Database & Systems Design
- Design and document technical methods for implementing new database systems and workflows.
- Work with data architects to design database schemas and data warehousing structures.
- Create database views to support live data feeds and interactive dashboard environments.
Data Quality, Standards & Governance
- Develop, implement, and maintain data standards, policies, and procedures.
- Create scripts to detect and resolve common data inconsistencies in incoming or existing datasets.
- Perform complex data audits to identify discrepancies, errors, and trends requiring attention.
- Evaluate impacts of technological changes and recommend scalable, modern solutions.
System Support & Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot issues related to data input, retrieval, database performance, and BI system operations.
- Maintain and optimize business intelligence systems and ancillary analytics components.
Project Leadership & SDLC Participation
- Coordinate all activities with project managers across the full software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, and deployment.
- Serve as technical lead for data-driven reporting and application development projects with minimal supervision.
Continuous Improvement & Professional Development
- Stay current on trends in database management, analytics, and BI technologies.
- Recommend new tools, methods, and best practices to enhance enterprise data capabilities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience
- Bachelor s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
- 16+ years of experience applying IT standards, systems analysis, and database management methodologies.
- 16+ years of experience in relational database technologies and SQL development.
- 15+ years of experience with SDLC processes and IT project coordination.
- 15+ years of experience in data warehousing and collaborating with data architects.
- 10+ years of experience in business intelligence systems and reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
Required Skills
- Advanced SQL development and data analysis expertise
- Strong knowledge of relational databases and data warehousing concepts
- Proficiency in creating database views, reports, dashboards, metadata, and data dictionaries
- Deep understanding of SDLC methodologies and project management fundamentals
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
