Job Title: Java / API Engineer with Mainframe
Location: FULLY Remote - Baltimore Metro Area or Plano, TX
Position type: Contract/ FULLTIME Permanent
Summary: A Java software/ API engineer is needed to work collaboratively with a team dedicated to the modernization of legacy mainframe systems to an API cloud-based system on Amazon Web Services.
Demonstrated experience with AWS and API based systems is required.
Experience in working with Mainframe systems (COBOL, CICS, zOS, etc) is a plus
Uses expertise to design, develop, code, test, and debug software.
Works with users to define existing or new system scope and objectives.
Provides analytical support and technical advice during the conceptualization, development, and implementation phases.
Reviews and evaluates systems and software for adherence to government directives, standards, guidelines, and criteria concerning software safety and systems safety.
Identify problems uncovered by testing or customer feedback and correct problems.
Evaluate code to ensure it is valid, meets industry standards and is compatible with devices or operation systems.
Knowledge of software development and test within an Agile framework
Mentor Jr staff where appropriate
Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
Experience delivering software in an Agile/ Scrum environment.
Experience in using the Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence)
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in building cloud-based APIs
Demonstrated experience in deploying applications to AWS using Cloud Formation or Terraform
Familiarity with build and CI/CD Frameworks and tools including Maven, Jenkins, Github, Docker
Experience using API development, documentation, and frameworks such as Swagger/ OpenAPI, DropWizard, Vert.x, Javalin, Dagger, etc.
Demonstrated experience in deploying applications to AWS using CloudFormation or Terraform
Scripting (Shell, Batch, Ant, Java Script, Groovy,etc.),
Experience with Cobol, CICS, JCL, VSAM a plus
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent training required.
3 to 5 years of experience required.
