What's the role?
The lead consultant designs and creates standards, best practices and guidance for how advisors do financial planning, including Northwestern Mutual's Financial Planning Philosophy (FPP), so that financial planning drives overall objectives. You'll be an advocate for bringing Northwestern Mutual's strategy to life with our field advisors and clients. Integrating our FPP into all planning content and ensuring all content regarding financial planning, being produced, aligns with the FPP. This role works with stakeholders to ensure that all financial planning software, training and other content developed for advisors and clients, related to improving client outcomes, while aligning with our corporate strategy is accomplished.
What you'll do:
Lead projects to the advancement of Planning Experience (PX) financial planning software, related to the advanced markets, including the estate planning, business planning, and high net worth markets, ensuring that Northwestern Mutual corporate objectives and strategy are being integrated into the software.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams in developing requirements for PX planning software and content used by advisors regarding financial planning with responsibility for ensuring PX aligns with the FPP and planning best practices.
Write and edit content for various Planning Excellence related documentation, tools and resources, and articles.
Influence and mentor the work of others, related to supporting PX Engineering in providing use cases; assisting in developing and conducting user acceptance testing.
Solve, by using innovative thinking to anticipate business and/or regulatory issues and help with complex planning problems.
Subject matter expertise - Maintain and grow deep knowledge on tax and legal issues impacting the advanced markets, through legal and tax research and analysis of industry trends. Use this knowledge to help drive company strategy.
Develop strong working relationships with a wide variety of advanced SMEs across the company (e.g. Advanced Planning attorneys, Government Relations team).

Bring Your Best! What the role needs:
- Bachelor's degree and JD from accredited law school required.
- Certifications or designations related to financial planning are preferred such as CFP®, CFA, ChFC, CLU. Series 6 or 7 is permitted but not required.
- At least ten years of previous experience in areas where financial planning subject matter expertise was used, especially in the areas of business planning, estate planning, and tax planning for the high net worth market.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of entire end-to-end business processes across how financial planning drives our strategy and understands relevant field advisor practices related to planning.
- Demonstrated experience participating in business strategy and facilitating requirements in gathering of large/multiple efforts.
- Understand financial planning principals and concepts and be able to lead colleagues in consulting subject matter authorities on financial planning content for the PX and broader CX organizations.
