Position: Senior Software Engineer

Duration: Direct Hire

Location: Chicago, IL (hybrid work model or fully remote)

Salary: 120-150k

SUMMARY:

The Sr. Software Engineer will be responsible for the development of process and automation solutions used in the delivery of legal services. This includes the management of Microsoft SharePoint along with new/emerging legal technologies such as document automation, intranets, extranets, and transaction management solutions to help our clients. This position will also work closely with members of the firm s Research, KM, IT, and Marketing teams to support, design, and build upon existing and new data tools that maximize the firm s experience and matter data.

The Sr. Software Engineer will report directly to the CIO and will be part of the Knowledge Management team. The position may also receive tasks and projects via a dotted-line relationship with the Director of Knowledge, Research, and Information Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Responsible for the design, testing, implementation, roll-out, and maintenance of web-based solutions based on the Microsoft 365 (particularly Teams and SharePoint Online) platform
  • Help with the development of a data lake for structured and unstructured data
  • Work on the development of solutions using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques
  • Responsible for the full management of the Sharepoint Online environment
  • Work with the CIO, Director of Knowledge and Information Services, and the KM team on projects to facilitate data mining, data entry, and analysis as necessary to populate new databases and support KM applications
  • Participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and selection of new technologies
  • Assist in the design and creation of in-house databases, intranet sites, dashboards and workflows
  • Analyze firm data to better understand trends and performance
  • Design and implement integrations between systems
  • Coordinate with system administrators and/or vendors to manage updates, upgrades and other system changes and enhancements
  • Work with members of the KM team to ensure that content in KM systems meets the needs of the firm
  • Enables the capture of substantive practice-specific data across the Firm and helps creates visual summaries of information in dashboards that tell the story behind the data
  • Monitors KM application performance and assists IT with troubleshooting systems and integrations

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Design and development experience in distributed systems, cloud technology, database engines (Azure App Services, Azure Blob, SQL Server)
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Developer stack (C#, UWP, WPF, WCF, Web API s, SQL Server, ASP.NET, Entity Framework)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, etc.)
  • Development tools/languages/formats (T-SQL, JSON, XML, Rest APIs, etc.)
  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 suite Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Teams
  • The ability to occasionally work extended hours on deadline-driven projects
  • The ability to easily pivot between team projects and being an individual contributor
  • Willingness to learn process automation software and help develop automated solutions

PREFERRED:

  • Advanced SQL/Database management design and optimization expertise
  • Advanced SharePoint365 management expertise
  • Experience with Document management systems, document automation software, and other common applications used by large law firms

EDUCATION:

B.S. in computer science, information technology, or related discipline OR solid 5+ years of full-time experience in software development/engineering
