BI Engineer

Description

We are looking for a BI Engineer to join our team and turn complex data into meaningful insights that support smarter decision-making across the business. This contract position with permanent potential is ideal for someone who combines strong technical expertise in Power BI with a thoughtful approach to storytelling through data. The role will focus on creating scalable reporting solutions, applying AI-driven capabilities within the Microsoft ecosystem, and helping business users get more value from analytics tools.

Responsibilities:
Create and enhance Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic models that deliver clear, reliable, and business-relevant insights.
Develop robust data models using Power Query and DAX, ensuring calculations, relationships, and transformations support accurate analysis.
Apply built-in AI features within Power BI, such as narrative summaries, anomaly identification, influencer analysis, decomposition views, and natural language querying, to uncover deeper trends.
Write and refine SQL queries to pull, cleanse, and organize data from platforms such as Snowflake, SQL Server, and Azure Synapse for reporting needs.
Partner with analysts, data engineers, and business stakeholders to define reporting goals and translate requirements into effective BI solutions.
Lead user discussions to collect feedback, improve reporting usability, and provide guidance on how to use BI tools effectively.
Manage Power BI Service content, including workspace organization, refresh scheduling, security controls, and deployment processes.
Build automated workflows with Power Automate to streamline report distribution, trigger alerts, and reduce manual effort tied to analytics processes.

Requirements

5+ years of experience developing business-facing dashboards and reporting solutions in Power BI.
Strong command of DAX for measures, calculated tables, and time-based logic, along with hands-on experience using Power Query for data preparation.
Working knowledge of Power Automate for building process automation tied to reporting, notifications, or approvals.
Familiarity with AI-enabled capabilities in Power BI and an interest in using them to improve self-service analytics.
Experience using Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouses or Warehouses as data sources for semantic models and reporting.
Solid understanding of data visualization principles, including selecting effective visuals and organizing reports for clarity and usability.
Experience administering content in Power BI Service, including row-level security, scheduled refreshes, workspaces, and deployment pipelines.
Microsoft certification such as PL-300 is preferred.
