Overview The Instructional Designer is responsible for the design and development of learning programs and materials which facilitate knowledge transfer in an effective, engaging and appealing manner which is aligned with adult learning principles.
Responsibilities Utilize written and visual communication skills to bring together text, images, video and audio to communicate and educate staff/clients
Design, develop and manage online learning tools, performance support aids, online tutorials, and other learning collateral
Convert storyboards (draft screen layouts, graphics, screen interactions and scripts) into eLearning modules and/or system show me" tutorials to provide staff and clients with just-in-time learning opportunities
Develop and integrate meaningful course interactions/activities throughout course design process to support knowledge transfer and learner retention
Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify target audience's training needs, course competencies and learning objectives to determine appropriate training medium
Synthesize, organize and write course content based on input from subject matter experts, research material, previous training courses, and staff dialogue/interviews
Manage training content/updates residing on SharePoint and similar content management systems
Oversight and administration of the LMS, including operational performance and management activities
Maintain LMS system functionality and act quickly to troubleshoot and resolve any unexpected bugs or error
Stay abreast of new trends and tools in adult learning principles and instructional/graphic design
Provide monthly LMS reporting and analytics
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Business, English, Education or Graphic Design preferred
5 to 7 years of work experience in an instructional design role
Industry certifications in instructional design, curriculum development, performance improvement, project management, and content-specific certifications as appropriate (e.g. CPLP, CPT, PMP, etc.) a plus
Advanced organizational skills with ability to handle multiple assignments
Advanced knowledge & application of adult learning principles
Skills Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to manage own time efficiently and effectively
Self-starter, motivated and proactive in bringing new ideas and solutions to the table and aggressively seeking knowledge
Proficient knowledge of eLearning development tools such as, Articulate Studio/Storyline, Captivate, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, and/or Flash
Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
Demonstrated use of deploying accurate learning method tailored to fit audience style and demographic
Ability to develop workflows and business procedures that correlate to training topic
Proficient knowledge of traditional and modern training methods, tools and techniques
Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with people of various responsibility levels and personalities
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Adequate knowledge of learning management software and web delivery tools
