Job Description Azure Security Engineer
Location: Mostly Remote (Occasional travel to Seattle, WA as per client requirement)
Employment Type: Contract
Preference: Candidates on W2
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Azure Security Engineer to support and enhance our cloud infrastructure and security posture. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Azure Virtual Machines, Azure services, SQL Server administration, automation, and cloud security best practices. This role involves operational support, monitoring, security enforcement, and collaboration across teams to ensure reliable and secure cloud environments.
Primary Responsibilities
- Azure VM & Infrastructure Management
- Provision, configure, and administer Azure Virtual Machines, including sizing, availability sets, scaling, and optimization.
- Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery strategies.
- Ensure performance optimization, compliance, and cost-efficiency of compute resources.
- Azure Services Administration
- Deploy and manage Azure services such as Azure Synapse, Storage Accounts, ADF, Fabric, and related Azure components.
- Monitor usage, performance, and availability of data workloads.
- Perform capacity planning and resource optimization.
- SQL Server Administration
- Execute core DBA tasks: installation, configuration, backup, recovery, and performance tuning.
- Troubleshoot SQL Server issues including linked servers, SSIS, and Extended Events.
- Develop automation using PowerShell and T-SQL.
- Security & Compliance
- Configure and enforce Azure security controls (NSGs, ASGs, JIT access, Azure Defender).
- Manage identity and access via Azure AD, RBAC, and managed identities.
- Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory security policies.
- Monitoring & Operational Support
- Configure and maintain monitoring solutions using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and alert rules.
- Troubleshoot issues across VMs, storage, networking, and platform services.
- Conduct proactive infrastructure health checks and performance analysis.
- Automation & Scripting
- Develop automation workflows using PowerShell or Azure CLI.
- Support Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives using ARM templates and Bicep.
- Collaboration & Process Adherence
- Partner with application, security, and network teams to support production and non-production environments.
- Document processes and follow operational standards for change management and deployment.
Technical Skills Required
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure Virtual Machines, Windows Server administration, Availability Sets, and Load Balancers.
- Solid knowledge of Azure data services including SQL, ADLS, and Storage Accounts.
- Experience with Azure identity and access management: Azure AD, RBAC, IAM.
- Proficiency in Azure security: NSGs, Firewalls, Encryption, Defender for Cloud, Azure Policy.
- Strong knowledge of Azure monitoring tools: Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Service Health.
- Advanced proficiency in PowerShell (Azure CLI is a plus).
- Familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway, and hybrid network configurations.
- Exposure to IaC tools: ARM Templates, Bicep.
