Senior Unified Communications Engineer 100% Remote



** MUST have WEBEX cloud experience configuration, etc. Contract through end of April 2026. Should be very SENIOR and ok with some travel to local fire stations in Fairfax Cty to support, not daily. VERY senior person.

The Senior Unified Communications Engineer will support enterprise-wide Cisco Unified Communications migration project, encompassing Unity Connection, Webex Calling, and associated voice infrastructure. This role serves as the technical escalation for call control, dial plan architecture, and system integration during a multi-site modernization initiative. The ideal candidate combines deep Cisco UC expertise with strong project leadership skills to ensure seamless migration with minimal service disruption. The Senior UC Engineer will support the following tasks:

  • Support installation and configuration of unified communication systems including VoIP, video conferencing, messaging, and collaboration platforms.
  • Administer and troubleshoot UC infrastructure including servers, gateways, routers, switches, and endpoints.
  • Support unified communications project including migrations, upgrades, and integrations.
  • Engage with network engineers, application developers, and security teams to verify cohesive system architecture and escalate technical issues related to UC installation.
  • Maintain technical documentation.
  • Provide end-user support and training during deployments and transitions.
  • Participate in unified communications project planning and design meetings

Ideal candidates will have the following skills and experience:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with UC platforms such as Avaya Communication Manager, Microsoft Teams, and SIP/H.323 protocols.
  • Strong understanding of VoIP, PBX systems, SIP trunking, and call center technologies.
  • Experience with structured cabling, overhead IP based paging systems, IP addressing, DHCP, QoS, and network connectivity.
  • Familiarity with Session Border Controllers, Expressway, Unity, and telepresence systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex UC issues and manage MACD operations.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience with virtual machine environments and cloud-based UC solutions is a plus.
