Summary

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to join the Cloud & Platform Engineering (CAPE) team supporting Fidelity’s next-generation Observability Platform. The role focuses on building and operating a scalable observability pipeline that powers monitoring, alerting, and system health visibility across cloud-native applications.

You will work on a shared services platform leveraging modern cloud, container, and observability technologies with a strong focus on OpenTelemetry-based architectures.

Key Responsibilities
Build and support enterprise-grade observability platforms (not just dashboard usage)
Develop and enhance observability agents and telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces)
Design and maintain logging, metrics, and tracing frameworks for distributed systems
Deploy and manage cloud-native observability tools (Datadog, Splunk, ELK)
Build and support OpenTelemetry-based instrumentation and data pipelines
Create dashboards, alerts, and monitoring solutions for platform health and reliability
Work with Kubernetes-based environments to deploy and operate observability services
Support CI/CD pipelines for observability components and automation workflows
Troubleshoot system and application performance issues using telemetry data
Collaborate with platform engineering teams on scalability, reliability, and security
Must-Have Skills
Strong experience building observability platforms (Datadog / Splunk / ELK) – engineering/build experience, not just usage
Hands-on experience with logs, metrics, traces, and telemetry pipelines
Strong AWS cloud expertise
Kubernetes (EKS) and Docker containerization experience
CI/CD experience using Jenkins or GitHub Actions
Programming experience in Python, Go, or Java
Strong understanding of logging and metrics data models in distributed systems
Nice to Have
Hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry (OTel)
Experience building or enhancing observability agents
Exposure to security and compliance in cloud environments
Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Fluentd/FluentBit, Jaeger, or similar tools
