What you'll do

As a reliability engineer supporting Space, Access Networks and Viasat Commercial Services (VCS), you will be responsible for conducting reliability activities to in a variety of products and programs! You will collaborate with engineering, operations, and quality teams to craft in reliability during all phases of a product's lifecycle starting from design to end-use.

The day-to-day

  • Contribute to the team of reliability engineers that support Space, Access Networks and Viasat Commercial Services (VCS).
  • Build and maintain a strong working relationship with engineering, program management, operations and quality team members.
  • Recommend and conduct relevant reliability tasks (like reliability modeling, physics-of-failure simulations, design failure modes effects and criticality analysis (FMECA), reliability test planning, etc.) for the responsible products and programs.
  • Communicate results, recommendations, and any reliability risks to program team and management and recommend/be involved in decision making

  • This position is located onsite. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams. Relocation assistance is available pending eligibility.

What you'll need

Requirements:

  • Education: Completion of Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, applied sciences, or related field

  • Experience: This role is intended for someone with 0-3 years of full-time, relevant industry experience

  • Additional:
    • Familiarity with reliability concepts and analysis
    • Strong communication and social skills
    • Have working knowledge and understanding of reliability methodologies to support programs. The methodologies include but are not limited to:
      • Reliability analysis and developing reliability models of systems.
      • Failure modes effects and criticality analysis (FMECA), identify critical failure modes (and other risks) and work with the team to develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
      • Physics-of-failure (PoF) based concepts and methodologies to simulate and proactively improve reliability.
      • Reliability testing (HALT, ALT and RDT).
      • Support root cause investigations of production and field failures and provide recommendations to improve reliability.
      • In-depth field failure metrics tracking and reporting.

What will help you on the job

  • Experience in environmental testing and failure analysis lab
  • A Master's degree or PhD in Reliability Engineering or related field
  • Proficient in reliability block diagram analysis, reliability prediction methods, and FMECA
  • Knowledge of root cause investigation and failure analysis techniques
  • Consistent track record to drive detailed failure analysis activities to root cause swiftly
  • Familiarity with Physics of Failure concepts and application
  • Ability to work with and influence design teams and leadership

Salary range

$78,500.00 - $123,500.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $97,000.00- $146,000.00/ annually
