Join a winning team! SAIC's National Security and Space (NSS) Sector is currently hiring for a customer within the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) in Chantilly, VA. This customer is responsible for designing, building, and operating national security-related systems based in space, in the air, and on the ground. SAIC is seeking a Space Program Protection Engineer with NRO experience to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Advisory (SETA) services to a rapidly expanding Government Intelligence Community (IC) customer for a complex space and ground efforts as part of an exciting and innovative set of programs.

This position supports a System Program Office (SPO) in a technical capacity for planning, execution, monitoring, and oversight of satellite system program protection methodologies that advance the National Reconnaissance Office's (NRO) space resiliency posture. The position is for a research and development (R&D) system in an emerging mission area. The position requires an advanced understanding of strategic program protection strategies

While seniority is a plus and a knowledge of systems engineering is required, this position can accommodate a mid-level engineer that is eager to learn and grow in their knowledge and experience of the art of systems engineering. The Space Program Protection Engineer should be able to quickly adapt to a multi-tasking environment and be comfortable working amongst a diverse and energetic team in the pursuit of mission objectives and project success.

The Space Program Protection Engineer will join a team of on-site SETAs working on system protection planning with responsibilities that may include but not limited to the following:
  • Develop concepts of operations, processes and procedures for effective Program Protection solutions.
  • Collaborate with DOD/IC program leaders and government representatives to ensure Program Protection initiatives are effectively implemented.
  • Identify, analyze, and mitigate potential risks associated with Program Protection in order to achieve technical and programmatic objectives.
  • Assess threats and vulnerabilities, and recommend counter measures/mitigations.
  • Coordinate across various team members (e.g., Program Managers, Customers, Engineers, Security, and Operators) to develop and refine Program Protection concepts, methodologies, and strategies.
  • Author, coordinate reviews and release written Program Protection Plans and other documentation (e.g., OPSEC and CONOPS plans).
  • Consult on Mission Protection Plans, coordinate with mission partners, technical experts, and operators to provide recommendations for protection through launch, on-orbit operations and end of life disposal.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline and 9 years or more relevant experience; Master's degree in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline and 7 years or more relevant experience.
  • Possess the ability to communicate, coordinate, and engage customer independently.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and small team environment.
  • Experience as a Program Security Officer for traditional and/or non- traditional, national security, special programs-in one or more of the following security disciplines: Program Protection, Operational Security (OPSEC), Communications Security (COMSEC), Information Systems Security (INFOSEC), physical/facility/technical security, personnel and industrial security.
  • Experience in an operations environment. Ability to develop risk managed approaches to provide a framework for operational decision making in under evolving circumstances.
