Thermo-Mechanical Characterization Technician
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Thermo-Mechanical/Mechanical Characterization Specialist & Testing Technician to join our material characterization lab. The ideal candidate will have strong industry experience in thermo-mechanical and mechanical characterization techniques, as well as familiarity with maintaining and operating lab equipment. This role involves conducting a variety of tests, interpreting data, and ensuring the smooth operation of lab equipment for product development and research projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform thermo-mechanical characterization using techniques such as DSC, TGA, DMA, and TMA.
- Conduct mechanical testing, including three-point bending (3PB), four-point bending (4PB), tensile, and shear tests.
- Operate and maintain lab equipment including DMA, DSC, TMA, TGA, Instron/DIC, and Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar, ensuring calibration and quality control.
- Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Set up and help qualify new tools and equipment in the lab.
- Conduct and support tests and experiments, including sample preparation, data collection, and analysis.
- Analyze and interpret data from tests, preparing detailed reports and summaries for cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate with team members and engineers to support research and product development projects.
- Stay current with industry advancements and trends in mechanical and thermo-mechanical characterization.
- Assist with training other lab members and attend trainings for new lab equipment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in thermo-mechanical and mechanical characterization, including hands-on use of equipment such as DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, and Instron/DIC.
- Experience working in a lab environment, maintaining equipment, and ensuring operational efficiency.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to write reports and communicate findings effectively.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent multitasking skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with Digital Image Correlation (DIC) techniques.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in material characterization.
- Experience with data analysis software and lab equipment calibration.
Type: Contract
Duration: 12+ Months
Location: San Diego, CA
Pay: $55-$70/hr (DOE)
