Job Details

Tesla is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its Infrastructure Design Advancement Team. In this role, you will work with other discipline leads and team members to develop innovative and efficient design solutions for manufacturing and workplace facilities, while defining the Basis of Design, implement lessons learned, and create new standards for future projects. This full-time role supports projects across multiple Tesla locations.

Responsibilities
  • Work with stakeholders from various teams including Research &Development, Product Design, Manufacturing, Construction, and Operations to understand, assess, aggregate, and summarize the site wide utility and MEP requirements
  • Perform feasibility and techno-economic studies on new equipment and technologies to support leadership's decision making and meet aggressive budget goals on capital and mission critical projects
  • Collaborate with various design teams to define project requirements and deliver exceptional and unique design solutions focusing on the early design phases
  • Perform calculations, recommend key improvements, and provide directions on and materials, specifications and systems of various sizes and complexity
  • Support the estimators preparing cost estimates to different levels of accuracy such as rough order of magnitude (ROM), project funding, and construction ready
  • In-Depth review of factory equipment operations using data analysis to inform Mechanical system designs and operations to ensure efficient use of CAPEX/OPEX
  • Ability to scrutinize status quo design development and provide novel alternatives to external & internal designs
  • Create flexible solutions that can meet evolving criteria over time and ability to challenge and justify design decisions to leadership
  • Typical scope may include retrofitting or modifying existing buildings, designing new buildings or new additions
  • Must be able to prioritize and manage heavy workload on multiple projects to ensure high quality and productivity

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 8 years minimum of relevant experience designing new or retrofitting existing factories for high volume manufacturing processes and/or executing large scale multi-disciplinary technical projects
  • Positive, enthusiastic, fast learner, can-do mindset and passionate about Tesla's mission
  • Ability to think on a system level challenges (see "the bigger picture") while also showing depth of detail in principles that drive complex engineering problems
  • Team player who can build trust and influence diverse teams outside of direct reporting structure
  • Proven ability to navigate subjective problem sets and situations through objective fundamentals and collaboration
  • Scientific programming and database skills desirable (MATLAB/Simulink, Revit, Python, SQL, or equivalent applications)
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable regulations applicable to the mechanical engineering discipline

      $92,720 - $256,200/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
