Job Title: Embedded Software Test Engineer Automotive
Location: Plano, TX
Duration: Long-Term Contract / Full-Time (Customize as needed)
Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Test Engineer with a strong automotive background and hands-on experience in AUTOSAR-based embedded systems. This role focuses on testing and validating embedded ECUs, vehicle cybersecurity features, and connected vehicle components across Toyota s ecosystem.

You will work on advanced embedded security testing projects that directly influence the cybersecurity posture of current and next-generation vehicle platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform embedded software testing and security testing on automotive ECUs, firmware, and AUTOSAR components.
  • Validate embedded systems, middleware, basic software (BSW), and application layers within AUTOSAR architecture.
  • Conduct testing on vehicle components, connected car systems, and interactions with mobile/web applications.
  • Analyze vulnerabilities, assist with penetration testing, and support mitigation strategies.
  • Develop test cases, automation scripts, and test tooling using Python and related frameworks.
  • Validate communication protocols and interfaces across vehicle networks (CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
  • Work closely with cybersecurity, embedded SW, and system engineering teams to ensure compliance with automotive security standards.
  • Document test findings, provide actionable reports, and support defect resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with automotive cybersecurity and software quality standards such as ISO 21434, ASPICE, AUTOSAR guidelines.
Must-Have Skills
Automotive Background
  • Experience working with automotive ECUs, vehicle networks, diagnostics, and industry tools.
  • Strong understanding of automotive development cycles and embedded testing practices.
AUTOSAR Experience
  • Hands-on experience in AUTOSAR Classic or Adaptive Platform.
  • Understanding of AUTOSAR BSW modules, MCAL, RTE, and SWC communication.
  • Ability to test and validate AUTOSAR-based software stacks.
Embedded Systems Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of embedded systems, firmware behavior, and microcontroller architecture.
  • Experience with programming languages:
    • C, C++, Python (Python for automation and tooling is highly preferred).
  • Experience with on-board communication/debug interfaces:
    • JTAG, SPI, UART, SWD.
Security Testing Skills
  • Embedded security testing, firmware analysis, vulnerability detection.
  • Understanding of secure boot, cryptography basics, access control, and secure communication.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
  • Experience with CANoe, CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy, or other automotive testing tools.
  • Knowledge of ISO 21434, SAE J3061, MISRA C, or AUTOSAR security principles.
  • Familiarity with threat modeling, fuzz testing, and attack surface analysis.
  • Experience with OTA (over-the-air) update validation.
  • Knowledge of telematics, infotainment, and connected vehicle architecture.
Ideal Candidate
