Description

Job Title: Product Owner - Portals Team (VA Projects) Location: Pacific Coast preferred (California ideal) Employment Type: Contract (Temp-to-Hire Potential) Work Arrangement: Remote-first with occasional onsite meetings; flexibility required for early morning calls and after-hours deployments. Position Summary: We are seeking a hands-on Product Owner to join the Portals Team supporting the VA provider portal and related applications (e.g., examinee, client, provider portals). This is a backfill role with potential to transition into a contract-to-hire position. The Product Owner will work closely with the IT team and serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, contributing to both modernization and stabilization efforts. The role blends traditional Product Owner responsibilities with some Business Systems Analyst (BSA) functions. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with developers, QA, infrastructure, and release teams to deliver high-quality portal solutions. Write and refine user stories and acceptance criteria based on business requirements. Translate business needs into technical specifications, with a basic understanding of application development and database concepts (e.g., table updates, stored procedures). Work under the guidance of a Value Stream Manager (VSM) who sets project priorities. Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives. Support both legacy ASP.NET applications and upcoming Salesforce/cloud migration initiatives. Assist with after-hours deployments and early morning meetings with East Coast teams. Balance work across modernization projects (e.g., cloud migration, Salesforce transition) and stabilization efforts (e.g., server/database upgrades). Preferred Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in a Product Owner or hybrid PO/BA role. Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies; CSPO certification is a plus. Experience with Salesforce and cloud migration projects is highly desirable. Basic technical aptitude (e.g., understanding of database updates, stored procedures). Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Experience in healthcare technology is a bonus, but not required. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. Team & Project Details: Team: Portals Team, focused on VA provider portal and related applications. Project Scope: Mix of modernization (e.g., cloud/Salesforce migration by 2026) and stabilization (e.g., server/database upgrades). Culture: Agile, collaborative, and transformation-focused. Candidates must be flexible, team-oriented, and comfortable working within predefined priorities. Interview Process: Step 1: Initial screening with Urmila (and possibly another team member). Step 2: Panel interview with broader team. Additional Notes: The role is not a traditional Project Manager or Scrum Master position. The Product Owner will not own full prioritization; priorities are set by the Value Stream Manager. Candidates must be comfortable with a collaborative environment, working closely with IT and business teams. Pacific Coast time zone alignment is preferred to match team schedules. Flexibility for early meetings (7-8 AM PT) and late deployments (up to 10 PM PT) is required.
