About the job

Advantra is partnering with a seed-stage AI startup in San Francisco to hire a Founding AI Engineer to build the next-generation information retrieval platform for complex unstructured data.

About the role

You will build and own the developer experience layer, including dashboards, analytics, and tools for internal and external users. You will ship end-to-end features across frontend, backend, and AI infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with research and product teams, iterate quickly, and improve developer workflows and interfaces.

Responsibilities

  1. Build and maintain dashboards for usage, billing, logs, and evaluation.
  2. Ship end-to-end full-stack features from frontend to backend.
  3. Debug and optimize backend latency and system performance.
  4. Collaborate with research teams to implement AI improvements.
  5. Gather user feedback and iterate quickly on product features.
  6. Improve developer experience and internal tooling.
  7. Ensure reliability and usability of frontend and backend systems.
  8. Define product workflows and interfaces for early users.

     

Core requirements

  1. At least 2 years of professional experience building and shipping full-stack features.
  2. Strong experience in React, Typescript, Python, and SQL.
  3. Experience launching end-to-end products or features under tight timelines.
  4. Past experience at a startup or demonstrated ability to ship rapidly.
  5. Experience debugging and optimizing backend systems.
  6. Experience designing frontend interfaces with attention to UX.
  7. Ability to collaborate across teams, including research and product.
  8. Strong ownership mindset and ability to work in ambiguity.
  9. Experience with developer tooling or dashboards.
  10. Experience with AI or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems is a plus.

     

Nice to have

  1. Experience building devtools or internal developer platforms.
  2. Background in AI infrastructure or machine learning systems.
  3. Experience with real-time analytics or logging systems.
  4. Experience working in tight feedback loops with research teams.
  5. Participation in competitive programming or Olympiads.
