Job Details
Responsibilities:
- Knowledge of mainframe system software installation, implementation, deployment, and support utilizing various tools
- Ability to analyze the most difficult mainframe system software problems and provide recommendations for remediation
- Ability to customize mainframe system software to support functional requirements utilizing various options, exits and local procedures
- Ability to prepare and present written and oral reports and findings on matters regarding mainframe system software acquisition, enhancements, implementation, problem resolution, or support
- Ability to test and deploy new software or updated software following locally established SDLC procedures
- Ability to maintain software currency based on local SDLC and maintenance standards in place
- Ability to create a full top-down plan for the installation, testing, and production deployment of software, software maintenance, or problem fixes ( break/fix remediation)
- Obtaining and ordering software, maintenance, and fixes from vendor sites
- Provides user support to other staff (internal and external as appropriate) in the use of software under their responsibility
- May be asked to create and deliver training classes, technical presentations, timelines, and training documentation in the use of software under their responsibility
- Maintains departmental documentation on software under their responsibility
- Maintains awareness of significant issues pertaining to software under their responsibility (such as availability of fixes, version upgrades, release upgrades, cumulative maintenance, and potential problems that could affect the usage and operation of the software)
- Adopts and maintains a customer-centric approach in dealings with internal and external staff and partners of diverse technical and experience levels
- Engages with and solicits other staff involvement (such as stakeholders, users) when performing any change to mainframe software that could potentially affect a wide spectrum of users
- Coordinates with other staff as needed when scheduling and performing mainframe software modifications
- May be asked to create new or modify existing local standards pertaining to software assigned to candidate
- Participates in Disaster Recovery exercises as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
- 8+ years of experience in mainframe systems programming
- Proficiency in SMPE, JCL, and Assembler programming languages
- Experience with IBM Utilities (DFDSS, IEBGENER, IEBCOPY, IDCAMS)
- Experience with ISPF/TSO Utilities
- Experience with CICS and DB2
- Experience with IBM z/OS operating system
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
- Knowledge of Agile development methodologies
