Technical Solutions Architect for top Auction Technology Platform in the USA

Location: Remote USA

Full-time / Direct-hire

Salary range: up to $200,000/year base

Summary: Our client connects thousands of auction houses, listing millions of items worth over $15 billion annually (and growing!), to buyers in over 170 countries around the world. These buyers generate over 100 million bids a year for our sellers, helping them achieve maximum value for the goods they sell. They help auctioneers sell everything from medieval swords to combine harvesters, paintings, and decorative art through to classic cars, furniture, and Caterpillar forklifts. They do this through 8 marketplaces that leverage our online auction technologies. They make auctioneers more efficient; we make small companies big by bringing them access to millions of bidders they could never find on their own, and they bring them technology they could never afford alone. They bring bidders choice of unique and specialized items, convenience, and trust. They do it all in a shared success model that accelerates growth of the circular economy and sustainable buying. They are looking for a Technical Solutions Architect. You will have extensive experience in designing and implementing complex, scalable, and high-performing solutions in an eCommerce or transactional/real-time systems environment. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to bridge the gap between technical and business teams, particularly in the context of cloud migrations and platform engineering. You will be joining a modern architectural practice that eschews ivory towers in favor of a decentralized architecture approach, emphasizing collaboration, flexibility, and real-world applicability.

What your contributions will be:
Lead the design and architecture of scalable, secure, and robust cloud solutions on AWS, ensuring alignment with business goals.
Play a key role in the ongoing migration of existing systems and applications to AWS, ensuring minimal disruption and optimal performance.
Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure solutions are both technically sound and aligned with best practices, especially during the migration phase.
Contribute to the platform engineering initiative, with a focus on Kubernetes (K8s) and related tooling.
Provide architectural oversight on major projects, particularly those involving consolidation or integration of different technology stacks.
Engage with stakeholders across the business, including product managers and business leaders, to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Ensure that solutions are designed with an emphasis on scalability, performance, and maintainability, leveraging AWS services and modern platform engineering practices.
Champion a decentralized architecture approach, fostering an environment where teams are empowered to make decisions while ensuring alignment with overall architectural principles.
Mentor and guide engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, particularly in the cloud computing, platform engineering, and eCommerce domains, to ensure our solutions remain cutting-edge.

What you will need for success:
3+ years experience in Architecture role
Proven experience as a Solution Architect with a strong focus on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Extensive background in eCommerce, transactional, and/or real-time systems.
Hands-on engineering experience, with a preference for a background in .NET and React (bonus, but not essential).
Experience leading and executing cloud migration projects, particularly from on-premise or other cloud providers to AWS.
Strong experience with Kubernetes (K8s) and related platform engineering practices.
Experience with Kong API Gateway, Grafana, Dynatrace, and other tools within the modern cloud and platform engineering ecosystem.
Experience in leading and delivering consolidation projects, especially those involving the integration of different technology stacks during mergers or acquisitions.
Strong ability to bridge the gap between technical and business teams, with excellent communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
A deep understanding of architectural best practices, design patterns, and the ability to apply them in real-world scenarios.
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technical teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Experience in agile and lean methodologies, with a preference for fast-paced environments.
