CareFirst is conducting a search for a highly qualified Business Relationship Manager (BRM). Reporting to the Director of Business Relationship Management, this role will have IT strategy and delivery responsibility for its assigned business units. The BRM will partner with business leaders to stimulate, surface, and shape demand for IT solutions and assets with a focus on shared success between IT and the business partner. The BRM will also support delivery of information technology solutions that generate business value and confirm that results are measured and communicated.


The IT Business Relationship Manager (BRM) is a senior level, highly adaptable and versatile individual contributor that will interface with business areas as a trusted advisor and advocate of information technology capabilities. The BRM is responsible for working with the business and key stakeholders to identify, analyze, and capture business value for each initiative while ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and IT roadmap. This individual will serve as liaison for various activities, as driven by the business, relative to supporting process efficiencies, creating operational scale, technology enhancements, and proactive support for strategic and product development initiatives.

  • Ensure delivery of technology value to the business by nurturing high-level long-term relationships, sensing business ideas and promoting the value of IT in delivering business solutions.
  • Develop an understanding of the business from financial, administrative, and operational views both internally and externally, and ensure IT resources and technology are selected/implemented that support short and long term business goals.
  • Shape demand through the exploration of technology ideas and provide support with moving the business’s initiatives through the idea intake process.
  • Partner with the business to create and maintain multi-year, technology-aligned, strategic roadmaps.
  • Measure, track, and report on value realization, performance metrics, and customer satisfaction relative to technology projects delivered.
  • Develop and deliver compelling presentations to business partners and technology teams related to partner ideas and in-flight Business Relationship Management initiatives.


This position has no direct reports, however, may informally lead teams in a matrix environment.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10 years progressive experience including business/systems analyst and program/project management.
  • 5 years of prior consulting, account management, sales or professional services experience in a customer-forward role.

Education Level:Bachelor's Degree inBusiness, Computer Information Systems, Process Engineering, Healthcare Management or related field OR inlieu of a bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

Licenses/Certifications Preferred:
  • Business Relationship Manager Professional BRMP

  • 8 years progressive experience including business/system analysis, program/project management, or related advisory or delivery experience with demonstrated delivery of complex initiatives in matrix and cross functional working environments and teams.
  • 3 years of experience championing organizational change, e.g., leading cross-functional initiatives, products, services, or interactions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Strategic thinker that understands business goals and priorities.
  • Capable of setting expectations with partners and achieving alignment and agreement.
  • Maintains excellent knowledge of managed healthcare functions.
  • Ability to listen, build rapport, and develop credibility as a strategic partner, including at the executive leadership level.
  • Able to scan and understand technology trends and major vendors to support business capabilities.
  • Experience assessing and articulating risk tolerances related to business implications of new technologies.
  • Effective communication of complex ideas both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional facilitation and organizational skills.
  • Technology generalist, demonstrating mastery in specialized areas.
  • Strong design thinking skills.
  • Significant experience with MS 365 (Teams, Sharepoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Strong analytic skills utilizing tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Excel, etc.
  • Knowledge of Agile frameworks and their application.
  • Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.
