Our West Michigan Client has a great contract opportunity for a Technical Product Manager to join their team. Multiple large projects are happening and they need someone to own and run the program level backlogs, epics, features and capabilities. Ideal candidates will be able to work a hybrid schedule. Remote positions will be considered for those who have Point of Sale project experience in Retail.

responsibilities:

Specific activities include, but may not be limited to:


  • Product Strategy & Roadmap: Define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for assigned POS product areas, aligning with overall retail technology objectives and business goals.
  • Program Management: Oversee the execution lifecycle (program management) of major POS development initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet established quality standards.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders (Retail Operations, Finance, Loss Prevention) and engineering teams, translating complex business needs into clear, prioritized technical requirements (user stories, acceptance criteria).
  • Technical Requirements: Define and manage the detailed technical specifications and architectural requirements for new POS features, ensuring compatibility with existing retail infrastructure and security standards.
  • Development Oversight: Partner closely with engineering and QA teams throughout the development lifecycle, validating that the delivered product meets the defined specifications and ensuring rapid iteration based on feedback.
  • Feature Prioritization: Own the backlog prioritization process, utilizing data and market analysis (including competitive analysis and emerging payment/retail technologies) to make informed decisions that maximize business value.
  • Release Management: Coordinate product releases and deployments, ensuring smooth transitions and managing communication related to feature rollouts and expected impact on store teams.
  • Performance & Metrics: Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for POS products, measuring success related to transactional speed, stability, customer experience, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:


A minimum of 7 years of professional experience, with at least 3 years specifically in Technical Product Management, Program Management, or a related senior development role focused on retail or transactional systems.


Deep technical understanding of Point-of-Sale (POS) systems, retail payment processing, and in-store technologies.


Proven experience managing the full product lifecycle, from concept and definition through development, launch, and iteration.


Exceptional ability to define and deliver large, complex technology programs involving multiple engineering teams and diverse stakeholders.


Strong command of software development methodologies (Agile/Scrum/Kanban) and experience working closely with software engineers on architecture and system design.


Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical business leaders and vice versa.


Experience with defining and measuring product success using quantitative data and qualitative user feedback.


A strong sense of ownership and accountability for the success of the product and associated programs.


Preferred qualifications:


Direct experience working on a similar large-scale grocery/general merchandise retailer's POS environment.


Knowledge of payment compliance standards (e.g., PCI DSS).


Certification in Project Management (PMP, CSM) or Product Management is a plus.


Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
