What to Expect

Battery Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Our product requirements necessitate ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. We are looking for passionate and self-motivated candidates to join us in our fast-paced and exciting mission. Our team works with engineering groups across various disciplines, requiring strong communication skills and a team-first mentality. You will work alongside seasoned industry experts, high aptitude entry level candidates, and people from every stage in between. We look for anyone with an exceptional ability to solve problems in both individual and team settings.

Tesla's Cell Product Development team is on a mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy and that all starts with battery cells. In this role you will be the lead planner/strategist embedded on the Development team. You will work with engineers and managers to develop timelines, track risks, track progress, and provide outputs for cross-functional teams. You will also be responsible to setting the standards for how we work, the tools we use internally, and setting the growth plan for our PM team

What You?ll Do

  • Tackle the technical challenge that is how to make an engineering organization as effective and predictable as possible as they take on some of Tesla's biggest challenges
  • Document in detail a timeline that represents how we work and how intend to get from point A (some vague kickoff) to Point B (salable product) on an aggressive timeline
  • Consider the details of tooling strategy, supplier selection, timing, and tradeoffs with design and program risk
  • Develop parallel path strategies for design solutions based on identifying and tracking risks
  • Explore the tools we use and set standards for how we use them. Gantt's, Kanban, DFMEA, Sprint planning, Standups, JIRA, Confluence, and more
  • Bring a refined perspective on the right level of detailed planning needed in detailed timelines
  • Prioritize the engineering team project work based on risk, resources, and payback
  • Identify creative ways to overcome obstacles and meet the schedule despite setbacks

What You?ll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering environment with responsibility for planning for program level impact
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of engineering projects for mass produced products
  • Complete understanding of iterative product development processes
  • Demonstrated experience creating, maintaining, and communicating schedules
  • Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills.
  • Individual contributor and design engineering experience is highly valued
