Basic Purpose
As a key member of the Enterprise Data and Information Management team, the Principal Engineer will lead the design, development, and implementation of Cloud Data Virtualization for the mission-critical Cloud Native Core Banking (CNCB) initiative. The goal of CNCB is to transform our legacy, batch-based Core Banking Systems (CBS) to a modern, cloud native platform to enable business flexibility, systems scalability, and real-time banking capabilities. The role will ensure that Operational Data Hubs and data engineering pipelines are setup to modernize Navy Federal's core banking platform. Working in partnership with business stakeholders, IT delivery teams and strategic vendors, the incumbent will create a compelling vision for Cloud Data Virtualization and Real-Time Data Integration capabilities across NFCU and build a catalog of operational data services to scale across the enterprise.
The Principal Engineer Cloud Data Virtualization will serve as a provider and subject matter expert (SME) for delivering Operational Data services to the organization and own relevant technology roadmaps. The role will provide forward-looking, industry perspective and is responsible for the full lifecycle process of the service including definition, execution, and governance.
Responsibilities
• Lead the design and build highly scalable data pipelines for real-time, near real-time and batch data ingestion, processing, and data integration
• Coordinate with IT Architects to create a strategy and solution for streaming and event driven data processing
• Manage/own Change Data Capture (CDC) tools and technologies across a wide variety of sources including VSAM data sets, RDBMS, and managed messaging services
• Technical leadership and knowledge to provide technical guidance and educate team members and coworkers on development and operations of streaming and event driven applications
• Build and maintain relationships with team members, management, key stakeholders and external contacts (vendors, etc.)
• Ensure the security and integrity of system and product solutions including compliance with Navy Federal, industry engineering and Information Security principles and practices
• Recognize potential issues and risks during the project implementation and suggest mitigation strategies
• Act as a key point of contact between the API teams and functional leads
• Work directly with business leadership to understand data requirements; propose and develop solutions that enable effective decision-making and drives business objectives
• Be a hands-on mentor and advocate to ensure successful adoption of new tools, processes, and best practices across the organization
• Prepare advanced project implementation plans which highlight major milestones and deliverables, leveraging standard methods and work planning tools
• Demonstrate change management and excellent communication skills
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Experience in leading the implementation of data virtualization and data modernization technologies
• Experience in leading the implementation real-time and near real-time data streaming and integration services
• Experience in implementing high performance modern database platforms including NoSQL (Cosmos DB or similar) and SQL (such as Synapse, Oracle, DB2)
• Working knowledge of message-oriented middleware/streaming data technologies such as Kafka, MQ, Azure Event Hub, Azure Event Grid
• Experience in leading the configuration, design, development, and operationalization of at least one or more Change Data Capture (CDC) solutions (such as Precisely Connect CDC)
• Expert knowledge of programming languages such as PySpark, SQL, Java
• Working knowledge of Cloud technologies (such as Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform)
• Proficient in systems and data integration in large, distributed architecture environments
• Strong communications skills and demonstrated experience in working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, vendors
• Experience in leading, guiding and coaching professional staff
Desired Qualifications
• Master's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Proficient in enterprise API management products such as MuleSoft
• Experience in integrating enterprise data and analytics applications with core banking solutions (credit, deposit, loan etc.)
• Knowledge of Navy Federal Credit Union instructions, standards, and procedures
• Experience in improving data quality through exception handling/quality control/data validation for data consumers
• Experience in agile delivery
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM
Location: 820 Follin Lane, Vienna, VA 22180
Navy Federal is now hybrid! Our standard enterprise requirement for a hybrid schedule is to report on-site 4-16 days each month. The number of days reporting on-site will ultimately be determined by the employee's leadership and business unit needs. You will learn more throughout the hiring and on boarding process.
Salary Range: $142,000 - $213,000 annually
Navy Federal Credit Union assesses market data to establish salary ranges that enable us to remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range, based on your experience, location and market position.
