As an Engineering Director within WAS Technology, you will drive the future growth of WAS platforms and capabilities. In this leadership position, you will:
- Lead multiple WAS Technology Software Engineering scrum teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.
- Ensure consistent, predictable, and high-quality delivery by implementing best practices, modern tools, meaningful metrics, and automation frameworks.
- Oversee key areas including people management, software development, and testing, providing hands-on guidance and mentorship.
- Shape the technology roadmap and backlog, working closely with senior leadership to align technical strategy with business objectives.
- Deliver solutions that are flexible, scalable, and responsive to the rapidly changing needs of our clients and business environment.
What you have
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years' expert level hands-on software development leadership experience
- 5+ years of professional experience as a director / leader of leaders building and growing teams that build distributed/scalable web applications
- Familiarity with DevSecOps and CI/CD practices, using tools like JIRA and Github
- Ability to articulate designs and guide engineers utilizing Java, PCF, Spring, Multi-threading, Messaging, Streaming, JSON, REST APIs, and Relational Databases
- Experience delivering cloud hosted, containerized, cloud native, 12-factor applications
- Setting strategic vision for application delivery in a collaborative/agile environment
- Identifying and resolving problems that require conceptual and innovative thinking
- Using industry trends and practices to develop new procedures, processes, and standards
- Building high functioning teams and mentoring leaders
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in wealth management technology or fintech experience in brokerage, custodian, etc.
- Experience in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) development environment
- Utilizing intelligence of the industry, market, and competition to influence strategy in the business area
- Promoting creativity, experimentation, and strategic thinking to differentiate Schwab from its competitors
- Exceling in driving active participation in cross-functional collaboration to fuel innovation and efficiency
- Establishing high standards, and fosters a culture of continuous growth and improvement
- Verbally delivers influential presentations that drive action and results
- Strong influencing, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with an ability to assess stakeholder needs and manage their expectations through effective communication
