Duration: Direct Hire (potential C2H)


Location: Oakland, Sacramento, Fresno (Hybrid; travel as required)


Start Date: ASAP


Pay Range : 180k - 250k USD


Interview Process: Panel interview: typically, 2 3 rounds

Electric Engineering organization is expanding technical leadership capacity within the Substation Design division. The role is open to support increased project load and modernization initiatives requiring advanced engineering judgment, mentorship, and complex problem solving across multiple high-voltage substation programs.


Mission:


To provide expert-level leadership in substation design and execution solving challenging technical issues, mentoring engineers, and ensuring power system infrastructure meets safety, reliability, and performance goals. The Senior Consulting Engineer serves as a technical authority, guiding policy, design standards, and system-wide improvements within electric engineering organization.


Day-to-Day:


Lead complex substation and grid infrastructure projects, overseeing design, engineering analyses, and conceptual development.

Act as the technical authority on root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and process improvement.

Provide engineering mentorship and technical guidance to project teams and junior engineers.

Collaborate with stakeholders across permitting, construction, field operations, and system planning.

Develop and enforce technical standards, policies, and specifications to ensure compliance and quality.

Contribute to innovation initiatives that enhance system resiliency and improve company-wide engineering performance.


Must Haves:


Bachelor s degree in electrical engineering (U.S. accredited or equivalent international program)

10+ years of cumulative experience in electrical engineering and design, with proven delivery across utility or energy-infrastructure projects.

Demonstrated leadership in managing large, complex substation or power-system projects involving multi-disciplinary teams and significant budgets.

Advanced technical proficiency in power-system infrastructure, protection, and control design, including strong knowledge of AutoCAD, engineering design codes, and utility standards.

Proven ability to develop and implement engineering standards, specifications, and process improvements that enhance safety, reliability, and performance.


Pluses:


Current California Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Familiarity with standards, policies, and internal project management systems (utilities industry specific)

Background in grid modernization, power delivery systems, or utility-scale infrastructure design.
