Job Title: Calibration Technician

Location: San Diego, CA

Contract to hire / Full time position

Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Calibration and Testing Engineer to enhance the quality of our torque sensor product line. The ideal candidate will apply rigorous quality standards in testing and calibrating systems, ensuring the highest level of craftsmanship in final assembly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct mechanical and electrical testing and calibration of torque sensor systems, utilizing electro-mechanical and electro-hydraulic torsion testers. Responsibilities include setting up machinery, installing fixtures, executing test sequences, and monitoring data acquisition.
  • Perform production processes for deliverable sensor systems, including demagnetization, magnetization, mechanical and environmental testing, and calibration. This involves comparing torque sensor outputs with reference outputs and evaluating system performance against product specifications.
  • Analyze and enhance sensor performance based on parameters such as shaft material, sensor position, magnetization conditions, environmental factors (e.g., temperature), and sensor layout.
  • Operate and maintain major testing equipment and subsystems, including torque test rigs, electronic components, hydraulic systems, and environmental testing equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to collect and analyze data, document findings, and optimize calibration and testing processes for improved efficiency and safety, as well as enhanced product performance.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Support R&D testing for new product features or configurations in partnership with design engineers.
  • Build deliverable sensor systems, including assembling mechanical parts, soldering electronic components, applying coatings to circuit boards, and ensuring precise wiring and assembly.
  • Participate in failure analysis of returned hardware by conducting diagnostic tests and reporting findings.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in calibration, testing, or a similar role.
  • Strong background in mechanical testing and data acquisition preferred (experience as a dynamometer operator or laboratory technician with sensors is a plus).
  • Familiarity with control systems, automated machinery, or data acquisition setups is beneficial.
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Proficiency in LabVIEW, MTS Test Suite, or Python is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Detail-oriented with robust mechanical, electrical, and software skills.
  • Experience with wiring harness assembly protocols (AWG 20 gauge or smaller), soldering, and general machining skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics is essential.
  • Understanding calibration protocols for sensors and instrumentation is a plus.
