RTX Corporation is an Aerospace and Defense company that provides advanced systems and services for commercial, military and government customers worldwide. It comprises three industry-leading businesses - Collins Aerospace Systems, Pratt & Whitney, and Raytheon. Its 185,000 employees enable the company to operate at the edge of known science as they imagine and deliver solutions that push the boundaries in quantum physics, electric propulsion, directed energy, hypersonics, avionics and cybersecurity. The company, formed in 2020 through the combination of Raytheon Company and the United Technologies Corporation aerospace businesses, is headquartered in Arlington, VA.

The following position is to join our RTX Corporate, Enterprise Services Infrastructure - Data & Insights team in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico:

RTX is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join the Data & Insights technical team as a Data Engineer / Python Developer to design, build, and operate reliable, scalable data pipelines that power analytics and decision-making across the enterprise. You'll work end-to-end in Python, using Dask for distributed processing and DLT (Data Load Tool) for pipeline assembly and source ingestion, deploying on Azure services and integrating with downstream data consumers (Power BI, analytics, data science, and operational systems).

This role is ideal for an engineer who cares about data quality, repeatability, and observability-someone who enjoys turning messy, multi-source data into governed, well-modeled, and performant datasets.

What You Will Do
  • Extend and maintain pipelines (Python-first): Develop ETL/ELT pipelines in Python using Dask for parallel/distributed computation and DLT (Data Load Tool) for ingestion and transformation patterns.
  • Model data for the enterprise: Implement robust schemas and contracts (bronze/silver/gold layers) that balance performance, cost, and usability across analytics and operational use cases.
  • Operate on Azure: Deliver solutions on Azure (e.g., Azure Storage Gen2/Blob, Azure Container Apps/AKS, Azure Monitor/Log Analytics).
  • Ensure reliability: Instrument pipelines with metrics, logs, and traces; implement alerting and SLOs; build idempotent, retry-safe jobs with backpressure strategies for large workloads.
  • Guarantee data quality: Implement validation, profiling, and automated testing (e.g., unit tests, schema checks, expectations) to ensure freshness, completeness, and accuracy throughout the lifecycle.
  • Enable governance & lineage: Contribute to data cataloging, access controls, and lineage capture; document datasets, transformations, and SLAs to meet audit and compliance needs.
  • Optimize performance & cost: Tune partitioning, file formats (e.g., Parquet), indexing, and caching; manage workload scaling with Dask clusters; right-size compute and storage.
  • Automate everything: Build CI/CD for data code, infrastructure-as-code patterns, deployment/versioning of pipelines, and automated backfills.
  • Partner with stakeholders: Work closely with analytics engineers, data scientists, product teams, and security/compliance to prioritize work and deliver trusted datasets.
  • Production support: Own runbooks and on-call rotations (as needed), triage failures, and implement permanent fixes (root cause + preventative controls).
  • Support the operation of Enterprise Service Infrastructure Data Warehouse (Snowflakes, Matillion, MS SQL server automations, Azure functions)
  • Develop SQL scripts, API interfaces, ETL transformations
  • This position will reference written work instructions for guidance with daily job activities. Work instructions are available in English only.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience.
  • Advanced Python skills (typing, packaging, testing, virtual environments, performance tuning).
  • Hands-on experience building ETL/ELT pipelines processing datasets (hundreds of thousands of rows or more).
  • Experience with columnar storage (e.g., Parquet).
  • Production experience with Azure data services (ABFS, networking, identity/Key Vault, monitoring).
  • Practical knowledge of Dask for parallel computation and DLT (Data Load Tool) for ingestion/transform pipelines.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, partitioning, and performance/cost tradeoffs in object storage.
  • Track record of data quality practices (validation, schema enforcement, backfills, reconciliation).
  • Experience with data warehouse, data automation, data analytics.
  • Experience in gathering, analyzing and/or presenting data.

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience with leading Process Improvement activities such as Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action (FRACA) or Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA), and experience with the Logistics and Operational Knowledge Interface (LOKI) system, SAP and PRISM
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to develop solutions to routine technical problems
  • Leadership-oriented in fast paced, deadline-oriented environments with constantly changing priorities.
  • Strong and effective organizational skills with ability to manage task prioritization tasks; ability to respond efficiently and effectively to time-critical issues.
