What to Expect

As an Analysis Engineer within our Methods Development team, you will play a critical role in the development of next generation Tesla products. Tesla's strength in simulations and analysis enables us to run fast and develop industry leading products that stand above the competition in crash safety, durability, and reliability. In this role, you will be responsible for characterizing and developing new modelling methods for the next generation of materials we're putting in our vehicles to enable this analysis work. You will be brilliant both technically as an individual, and as an active member in a diverse and challenging cross-functional team environment You will work with teams across Vehicle Engineering to understand new products and work with the Materials Engineering and Test Engineering teams to make sure that we have the analysis tools required to predict the behavior of those new products accurately and confidently.

What You?ll Do

  • Benchmarking and continuous development of material and joint simulation methodologies
  • Coordination with Materials Engineering and Test Engineering for coupon testing of materials and joints
  • Selection and tuning of material models to best capture mechanical properties including stiffness, plasticity, strength, fracture, and fatigue
  • Characterization of CAE material and joint cards to support all Tesla solvers
  • Validation of material and joint cards with subsystem testing
  • Management of CAE material database and integration with Tesla-wide Material Record System
  • Classification of material and joint data quality and card sophistication
  • Perform advanced CAE simulations to evaluate and improve component level durability, strength, and stiffness performance
  • Collaborate with Test Engineering teams to develop and support component and subsystem level testing
  • Perform detailed post-test analysis and correlate CAE simulations to test results
  • Use correlated simulations and work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to progress the design and improve system performance

What You?ll Bring

  • Detailed and applied knowledge of Finite Element Analysis, Applied Solid Mechanics, Material Science and Numerical Methods in a product development environment
  • Familiarity with micro- and macro- level material behavior of metals, plastics, glass, and elastomers
  • Understanding of common manufacturing methods for automotive components and how those processes impact the mechanical behavior of the end part
  • Detailed and applied software experience in CAE pre-processors, solvers, and post- processors in a product development environment. ANSA, Abaqus, nCode and META preferred. Additional experience in Nastran and LS-Dyna beneficial
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with teams on problems that are challenging to solve and requiring innovative solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to deconstruct complex test scenarios with good logic and analytics
  • Demonstrated ability in iterative and collaborative engineering environments - success in roles requiring high levels of technical communication and interpretation of analytical results to design engineers and technical leadership
