What you'll do

• Collaborates with Business and IT leadership to define and communicate the organization's vision, direction, and work priorities, driving progress towards Data Governance initiatives at American.
• Provides technical, functional, and project supervision to the Data Governance Engineering team.
• Works with Enterprise Architects to introduce and integrate Data Governance frameworks, tools, and engineering practices into the organization.
• Directly supervises the Data Governance Engineering team, including hiring, work allocation, scheduling, training, professional development, problem resolution, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation.
• Creates an environment where teams are self-governing and accountable for their performance and delivery commitments.
• Promotes continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the organization.
• Removes roadblocks, cultivates relationships, and effectively communicates across the enterprise at various leadership levels.
• Manages and tracks engineering project/program schedules and budgets with controllers, as appropriate.
• Leads the adoption and implementation of new and emerging Data Governance and Engineering Technologies.
• Develops and mentors a high-performing team with diverse skills and experiences.
• Maintains an effective approach to problem-solving, multi-tasking, coordinating, and scheduling.
• Upholds Data Governance and Engineering standards to ensure visibility and reliability.
• Manages Data Governance Engineering and Platform issues and off-hours support, communication, and coordination as needed.
• Occasionally works extended hours based on project and operational needs.
• Travels, as required.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Technology, Information Systems, or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
• 5 years of experience participating in delivery of solutions using Agile or similar methodology
• 5 years of leadership experience in any capacity within the organization

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• Airline industry experience, including business process and supporting technology

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

• Understanding or experience in Programing using SQL, Python etc.
• Experience on Data Governance capabilities and delivering solutions for large scale Enterprises
• Experience on Data analytics and engineering methods to provide real-time analytic solutions to solve business needs
• Knowledge of public cloud technologies and Data Engineering/Analytical platforms
• Experience in managing, supporting, and delivering 'mission-critical' projects/migrations
• Experience working with Agile project management methodologies and tools
• Proven ability to handle multiple projects/work streams and demands efficiently
• Experience in leading a team of individuals with various levels of skills and experience in potentially high stress and challenging situations
• Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments
• Experience managing financial budgets a plus
