Comtech LLC is seeking a highly experienced Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to support Florida
State University s enterprise-level Oracle environments that underpin its PeopleSoft applications and
related systems. The DBA will be responsible for database design, performance tuning, patching, RMAN
backups, Data Guard configuration, RAC management, and capacity planning to ensure high availability,
performance, and resilience.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Oracle 19c+ environments and hands-on
expertise with WebLogic administration and integration, supporting multi-tier architectures for FSU s
critical business and academic systems. The DBA will collaborate closely with FSU ITS teams to maintain
system reliability, enforce compliance with institutional policies, and ensure that database services meet
defined SLAs.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer, monitor, and optimize Oracle databases supporting PeopleSoft and other
enterprise applications.
Perform regular RMAN backups, restores, and recovery testing to ensure data integrity
and disaster recovery readiness.
Configure and manage Oracle Data Guard for high availability and failover support.
Administer and maintain Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) environments for
performance, scalability, and redundancy.
Perform database patching, upgrades, and security hardening in alignment with FSU ITS
maintenance schedules.
Conduct performance tuning, SQL optimization, and capacity planning to ensure
consistent database performance.
Support WebLogic Server administration tasks including domain setup, deployment,
clustering, and troubleshooting.
Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting mechanisms for proactive incident
prevention.
Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, SOPs, and system architecture
diagrams.
Collaborate with application, middleware, and infrastructure teams to support
integrations and environment refreshes.
Participate in on-call rotation and emergency support as required.
5. Expertise and/or Relevant Experience:
Expertise and/or relevant experience in the following areas are mandatory:
M1 Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
M2 8+ years of experience as an Oracle Database Administrator in large-scale enterprise
environments.
M3 Hands-on experience with:
RMAN backup and recovery strategies
Oracle Data Guard configuration and management
Oracle RAC installation, tuning, and troubleshooting
Performance tuning and AWR/ASH analysis
Oracle patching, cloning, and upgrades
M4 Working knowledge of WebLogic administration, including domain configuration,
deployments, and patching.
M5 Strong understanding of Unix/Linux environments, shell scripting, and database security
principles.
M6 Experience with ITIL-based change management, documentation, and SLA compliance.
M7 Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Expertise and/or relevant experience in the following areas are desirable but not mandatory:
D1 Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) for proactive database monitoring and
capacity analysis.
D2 Familiarity with OCI-based Oracle deployments and cloud migration strategies.
D3 Exposure to PeopleSoft, OBIEE, or OUD database integrations.
D4 Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or higher certification strongly preferred.
D5 Experience with HA/DR testing and failover simulation in production environments.
D6 Prior experience supporting public-sector or higher-education institutions.
