Network Engineer II - Outside Plant

What we're seeking:
This position is responsible for applying engineering design and policies within a telecommunications local exchange service environment. Subject matter expert for all technical aspects of outside plant facilities and associated work such as cable sizing, cable counts, cable records, and permitting in Rights-of-Way and dedicated easements. This position works in partnership with Network Planning, Central Office Engineering, and various Operation Teams to support customer service issues, new growth activity and coordination, damaged facilities, emergency repairs and replacements, and upgrades of the telecommunications facilities the engineer's area of responsibility.
In this in-person role, you will be required to report to our Norwich or Middletown, NY location to complete your work responsibilities.

What you'll do:
- Responsible for fielding varying types of information and data from numerous environments, including public rights of way along roads, the interior space of buildings, and throughout private campuses, such as offices or universities, and is generally assigned more complex or advanced projects/investigations
- Gathers data using digital cameras, observations, notes/reports, GPS-enabled data collectors, and other measuring devices, and trains less experienced staff on use and maintenance
- Uses various technologies and applications, including phone, email, and web-based
- applications including Google Earth/ArcGIS/Cadtel or equivalent, to effectively compile data from the field or to modify/adjust preliminary plans
- Uses face-to-face communication to convey information accurately and efficiently to
- Provides scheduling, status reporting, and other documents as necessary and coordinates the same information with less experienced staff
- Works in handholes, accesses duct systems, and traverses landscapes that range from city streets to steep, unpaved rights of way, locating, and marking underground ducts/cables, sticking/measuring utility poles, or other physical activities
- Safely and properly train less experienced staff on workplace safety, industry information, and technology as well as best practices
- Track assigned tasks and prioritize completion of tasks accordingly
- Learn new telecommunications equipment and client-specific equipment and their usage
- Learn conduit design from client-specific standards
- Read and analyze blueprints, structural building drawings, construction drawings, and plans
- Evaluate the design for constructability
- Learn fiber optic specifications, equipment, and usage

- Salary Range: $66,000 - $102,000
- 20 PTO (Paid Time Off) days + 10 paid holidays per year

- Telecommunications and/or utility experience preferred
- 1 to 3 years experience with the production of engineering drawings
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work autonomously without supervision required
- Experience with the production of structural and/or civil engineering drawings for telecommunications new site builds, upgrades, and fiber optic networks (or similar site engineering drawings) required
- Ability to review site documentation and gather the necessary information to complete the assignment
- Ability to drive to meet with customers and others as needed
